Nearly all country songs are terrible, but when they're good, they're great.
I don't know the five best, but Leavin' Louisiana in the Broad Daylight.

I abso-frickin-lutely despise new country Most of it has gone strictly to the formula, but there are a few that still make good country music.
Toby Keith, Alan Jackson, George Strait are still making good songs. I like Gretchen Wilson and Trick Pony, too.

The first country song I remember hearing, as a kid, was "Tennessee Waltz". My parents would dance to it, and I would dance with the dog.

Shania Twain is nothing more than a package, all wrapped up in whore clothes to sing, very badly I might add, someone else's lyrics.

It is perhaps the single most-recorded country song (LOL, FReepers will confirm or deny it pretty fast).
I'm not sure anyone under 40 should be compiling such a list without passing a discography history test, LOL.
