I just checked the standings. They're 3 games ahead of last place in the division. Wow.

I heard it was either Damon or Ortiz from the Bosox, plus a Yankee, and I heard Rocket, too. I been saying they should test rocket man for a while now. He's guzzle uranium if he thought it would help his game. And look at his game at his age. It's not normal. Plus, he's all about the gym and the workout. Won't be surprised at all if it's rocket. i hope it is ortiz. put an asterisk on the breaking of the curse. the whole thing's a wash!

face it, most American athletes are taking some sort of performance enhancing drug and have been since the Olympics during WW2.

Steroids are definitely used as anti inflammatory treatment for disc problems. I had a herniated/ruptured L4-L5. I skipped the steroids and went right to the surgery. But they can tell what substance it is. I am sure they aren't testing positive for prednisone.

I think Eddie Murray's numbers are legit, for that matter.

Jason Giambi has the right idea. So on some serious drugs for a month right after you're tested, then go back off 'em when they think of testing you again.

The Braves have won that division what, twelve of the last thirteen years? And with talent somewhat diluted from ten years ago. Not much optimism from me. I would expect Philly to finish closer to last in the division than they will the wild card. Hell, the last I followed baseball with regularity there WAS no wild card!

EVERYONE gains weight between 23 and their 30s...especially if they work out...

And especially if you don't, as I'm discovering ;)

That shows. The Braves have won it each and every year for the past 13 and this will be the 14th year. The entire NL east has had SO many injuries it is amazing that the ENTIRE DIVISION is above .500. Now this is balanced by the crappy NL West, but the Phillies are playing much more relaxed this year without Bowa than they EVER did with Bowa....

"acutally no. I think those herniated disks ended up shortening his career.

If a doctor prescribes them for a legit injury, that ISN'T a problem, as that is completely and totally LEGAL"

Without lots of roids it would have likely ended his career. Professional sports should take the same policy as the IOC. You can use roids for treatment of injuries, but not compete if you are. The IOC won't even allow roids for asthma

I actually hope you're right, and they make the playoffs. But if they crash and burn, I may have to give you an "I told you so". Seems I got that Braves stat pretty close for someone so uninformed as myself.

since when should we EVER copy the IOC?

I guess then maybe the league commissioners can start taking kickbacks like the IOC commish's do then?

well it is one of the great streaks of baseball history that is for sure...

3 months ago, it looked like the Braves were dead and buried, but their minor leaguers came through for them. That is, ironically what has been helping the Phillies too with Ryan Howard.....

After that great pitching nucleus they had years ago dissolved, I gleefully waited for their downfall. It never happened. Then the Phils get Millwood and he went straight into the toilet. That's when I figured there's some voodoo curse...........

Corticosteroids are indicative therapy, usually combined with an analgesic. Corticosteroids and anabolic steroids are not the same class of drugs, however. Corticosteroids are an anti-inflamatory, they are used to reduce swelling and inflammation. Anabolic Steroids are synthetic hormones, similar to the male hormone testosterone and have no anti-inflamtory effect.

LOL

the Braves still have great pitching and I think in a couple weeks, when Hampton and Thomson are back and healthy, they will be nearly untouchable in the playoffs...

but being the Braves, they can't hit in the postseason anyway so it isn't that big of a deal....

Joe Montana didn't do any ANABOLIC steroids in his recovery.

See post 79....
