Siskel did that to Ebert a lot more then then other way around. siskel always thought Ebert was too easy and liked too many movies. And I would say Roeper dishes it out pretty good as well. There are so many 'media voices' out there that it's hard to find people who actually know movies. Most people writing film criticism these days don't know who Howard Hawks is. However Ebert's background and erudition in cinema is beyond doubt. I don't always agree with him of course.
Just the same...my point is that he looks like Big Gay Al.
BTW, for a straight guy he sure put much effort into the homosexual love scenes in his Beyond the Valley of the Dolls. Must be very sure of his sexual identity back in the day when one never mentioned such things.
The only movies Roger Evert ever wrote were porn, (softcore and hard) for Russ Meyer.
Pot calling the kettle black.
Some people like spinach, while others do not.
Odd thing is that film featured a male prostitute sodomizing Adolph Hitler, er Adolph Schwartz.
Ebert has hated some absolutely great movies as well.
He compiled a whole book of 0-1.5 star reviews.
I think he, along with other critics, have also reappraised some films over time.
Ebert has been a lousy critic and an outspoken political ever since Gene Siskel died.
Those two might not have been good friends but Rog wouldn't have tried half of his crap with Gene still around. He'd be too ashamed to try.
Jim Emerson: On celebrities, Politics, and movie critics (shilling for Roger Ebert)
I have a signed copy of that book! Everyone has something they hate that everyone likes and vice versa.
