Selleck in Crossfire Trail and Monte Walsh is excellent. I also liked Quigley, but that's because I'm a gun nut and he always gets the guns right.

His filmography is a bit more than those. Add also: Harry Carey.

Lee Marvin had chunks of guys like Mel Gibson and Bruce Willis in his stool. A real-life Marine who earned a Purple Heart in WWII.

Exactly. He's an NRA member and an AQHA member and bought the horse that he rode in Quigley.

Monte Walsh is one of my favorite movies.

"Even" Yul?? LOL - most people thought he was quite sexy.

Best movie - King & I. Sorry, tough guys....

Charles Bronson I'll put up there as top tough guys, but not the others. ;-)

Exactly. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. :-)

Trivia, What was James Caan's character's name in El Dorado?

I like Jimmy Stewart but not in the pure "tough guy" sense (altho I have no doubt he was no true weinie, either) and certainly not the "western" sense. Seemed rather silly, IYAM!

I think that Black Powder Cartridge Competition got a huge boost from Quigley. Everytime I watch it I have to lock my credit card away so I don't call Shilo Sharps.

And the Duke's movies are so numerous, we could argue for days which is the best!

I agree.

I also really liked him in his two latter day cop movies. Brannigan and McQ!
