Maybe they should hand out football helmets to the Dad's? Nah, most new fathers these days would rather have a handheld video game.

You could be right that sitting up is superior. I had one anesthetist who did it that way. My observation was simply that things had been done differently in my deliveries, not that lying down was better, although from the point of view of the laboring woman, it is better!

The production of children has slowed down since he started competitive running - it takes a lot of energy for a 40-plus guy :-).

Nobody gets near ME with any visual-recording device (not even a Freepin' sketchpad!) until I'm home, dressed, and made up!

If by some miracle I ever find myself pregnant again, I will NOT be getting the epidural. I'll just suck it up, I think.Yeah, I had all of mine without anesthesia. Sure it hurts like hell, but by the time you're ready to yell "uncle," it's almost time for the baby to pop out anyway.
I just never wanted to have an epidural I learned that the drugs cross the placenta into the baby's blood; and that it can slow down the process, make it a lot harder to push, and just generally lead to more complications including more c-sections.
I think a lot of women would forego anesthesia if they understood, clearly, that birth is supposed to hurt! --but that, in most cases it doesn't last too long. (And in compensation you get a healthy, alert baby when you're finished.)
Too many women IMO are propagandized in "birthing classes" into thinking that if they just do their "breathing techniques" right, it won't hurt. Then they're shocked to find it hurts anyway, think they're failures for doing it "wrong," and throw in the towel. "OK, bring on the epidural -- pleeeeeease!" And sometimes doctors pressure them into it, too.

Never been on jury duty and probably would not make many juries considering my beliefs (Concerning personnel injury cases).
Have you ever worked in the medical field? Especially a floor nurse working the graveyard shift responsible for 10-16 Pts. God forbid you should ask a family member for help (With a choice of saying yes and no) but in this day and age I guess you can't do that anymore.
Have you ever done an epidural? You do know they must be done in a certain time frame don't you.
Have you ever been asked to help with the choice of saying yes and no like this man who died did?
We do not have all the facts yet. Unfortunately in this sue happy society we live in reason and logic go out the window. People might get fat now but may pay in the next life.

Wow, you're closing in on your own baseball team. I called you brave without knowledge of the full extent of said bravado. I'm not sure what sounds more daunting - having that many kids to herd, or being pregnant & giving birth 8 times! I trust that at least the older kids are taking care of the younger ones so you can get some rest.
Next time I feel stretched in all directions by my mere three, I will no doubt remember you and be refreshed anew. If you tell me you homeschool, I'll pass out right here and now. ;)
Have a wonderful pregnancy!

We homeschool - but don't faint. Everyone's behind on math. (What do you do more, anyway ... long division, or housecleaning? :-)
Being pregnant is a drag, especially at almost 40, but I've been fortunate to have falling-off-a-log deliveries, except for the breech.

I KNEW it! Is that you, Mrs. Ferris? Ha, just kidding, besides, they have 12 I think. We homeschool too - I must have seen you post on one of the hs threads. Once again, when my 2 year old is disrupting my 8 year old's tests, I'll think of you. :)
I just looked at your profile page - what gorgeous kids.

I'm sure none of the Farris kids is doing remedial math :-). Thanks for the compliments; the kids take after their dad.

Maybe, but falling on a video game just presents another hazard.

I don't know how many times I have seen that on FR we all think alike on a lot of things.
I guess thats why we hang out here.

Darn, I keep forgetting that tag. Been happily married 42 years with two wonderful sons, both in helping professions and two beautiful granddaughters and I'm happy to say we all waited patiently in the "bull pen". A man has to know his limitations (hereditary weak stomach), don't you know.
To: Tax-chick
That's the way I see it. I've never been pregnant, ergo I've never delivered, but I tend to think my chic updo might not last through that.

Congratulations on your family. I'd never make it through a delivery if I had to watch!
