And I voted for Anthony because I wanted someone who is consistently in the bottom three to get more votes than Scotty.
It doesn't seem fair that Constantine, who had never been in the bottom three before, to get voted off. The rules should be that you have to be in the bottom three for at least one time prior...it gives you time to get your act together and improve, like Bo did when he was in the bottom that one week. He came back swinging.
I am unhappy with the format of Idol in this regard.
where's the bling?
Maybe you should check the charts - Kelly Clarkson's record is # 13 on Billboard & climbing. She was the first Idol.
But I have to admit that seeing Simon Cowell give Scott a million dollar contract would be pretty funny, because thats the last person Cowell wants to win.
And the flamer is Clay Aiken.:-)
Ah, so Nashville Star changed the rules this year? (I no longer have cable, so I didn't participate this year.) Anyway, this is a very good idea, and keeps the competition fair, IMO. One phone, one vote.
In reality, many people would be able to vote twice, if they also have a cell phone.
Get off your high horse. Quite frankly American Idol brings a lot of people some needed wholesome entertainment.
Your statement that it hasn't produced any "rock" stars is true. But right now Kelly Clarkson has 2 singles in the Billboard Top 20. So it has produced exactly what it intended to produce, which is a "pop" star of lasting quality.
This year I suspect that it will produce a "rock" star and at least one (for certain) country star. Bank on it.
"You are who you are and I can only bow to your hipness"
You can still be a gansta engineer groupie. All is not lost.
With all the crap that people think about nowadays, why would anyone care to immerse themselves in thier own thoughts? Besides, most people's thoughts are not deep enough to "immerse" anything.
Gee, in the last 10 years this ignorant American Public has, in their profound ignorance, voted to give the Republicans control of the house, the senate, the presidency and most of the governors mansions.
Now, go back to your room and read your Cicero and maybe someday you'll win on Jeopardy.
Fantasia has a # 2 single on the R&B charts right now.
Just thought I'd throw that out, for no particular reason, hehehe.
It's not doing anything for society at all, despite its grandiose title, it's not producing any rock stars, it's only generating revenue for the Fox Network.
Youre a hoot.
Why would you consider producing rock stars doing something for society but generating revenue for Fox is not doing something for society. I'm somehow missing the societal enrichment that flows from the generation of rock stars.
Anybody who expects network television to do something for society is barking up the wrong media to begin with. It's television dude.
He looks like an inbred to me.....(sorry Scott)
Clarkson seems to have a career. She still shows up on various TV shows and such, it wouldn't surprise me if she were to have her own TV show, or be in movies.
Does anyone really think that in 5 years anyone's going to know them at all?
Kelly, yes. Ruben and Fantasia, no. This season's winner, well, let's see who that is. If its Carrie, she will go on to be a country star. Folks who buy country music are quite loyal to their favorite stars.
It's not doing anything for society at all, despite its grandiose title, it's not producing any rock stars, it's only generating revenue for the Fox Network.
Well, neither did "Star Search", and it couldn't even produce income. AI figured out the right formula, get the audience feeling like they're INVOLVED with this, and they become invested in the people they vote for. Then, even the losers' CDs will sell a million copies. The people who put AI together are marketing geniuses. Have Coke and Ford pony up all their production costs, pimp those two brands to the point of nausea, and reap big bucks off of ANYTHING the Idols make for the next ten years. Sounds brilliant to me!
All the while people are tuning in in droves, most foolishly believing they're witnessing the genesis of an actual rock star, instead of watching something intelligently entertaining, more informative, or (gasp!) reading a book!
OK, it's not my most intellectual pursuit, but it's chewing gum for my brain. In fact, I get together with friends to watch, and the social interaction between us is the fun part. It's not any different from getting together to watch a made up contest such as a sporting event. In fact, I do this with the same friends I go to the ballet or the opera with. Sometimes, you just need light entertainment that you can laugh and joke about.
With shows like Idol though, consuming our thoughts and mental resources as a nation, is it any wonder that this once great country has taken such a precipitous slide into ignorance in the last 10 years?
AI is no different than "Ted Mack's Amateur Hour" from the classic days of TV. As a so-called "reality" show, it seems to be far more entertaining than watching that puffed up Clymer, Donald Trump. Ditto for "Survivor" (why hasn't that show worn out its welcome?) and "Fear Factor". There are real people, looking for real stardom, and I guess it feeds into the Cinderella complex that pervades our society. The idea that somebody will go from total obscurity to great fame within a year is something that has excited authors and screenwriters for a very long time. All AI does is tap into that for the big bucks, and they have hit on a formula that delivers the eyeballs to the advertisers.
I started weaning myself away from TV when I got the Internet back in 1997, and AI is one of the few non-news programs I make it a point to see. They've delivered entertainment for dirt cheap, and that's why I watch.
Don't know what it is....don't care.
Kip, is that you?
