Heck, it's a twofer. Not only does it make out Catholics to be monsters, but it actually reinforces a number of inaccuracies about Jews as well! Those who hate both Christians and Jews are loving this!
The RC Church has been lieing the last 2,000 years so as to keep their franchise going and the money rolling in; Their agents are everywhere and they kill anybody that gets in their way.
Succinct enough for the CLIFF NOTES version?
OTOH, I went to the movies four times to see "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen", so wadda I know? :-)
I said earlier that it was a twofer, making out Catholics to be monsters all the while promoting falsehoods about early Jews in France. I was wrong, as you have handily reminded me. It was actually a threefer. In addition to the two things above, it also made the Carolingian line out to be monsters. Oh joy, everything from Western Christianity to the initial Diaspora to the Holy Roman Empire gets smeared in this deal.
Gandalf ping.
I agree - I read it and thought it was a good story. A few years back I also read Holy Blood, Holy Grail. It would be easy for someone who is non-religious or semi-religious to pick up with some of the things written in these two books and run with it. Holy Blood, Holy Grail twists things so well that anyone who is not strong in their beliefs would have lots of questions.
Hold the phones, we have a winner. (And I thought I was the only one that noticed that.)
Dan Brown's, and possibly all of literature's, utterly worst novel of all time is Digital Fortress.
Remember that giant space robot vacuum cleaner from the movie Spaceballs? That's how much it sucked.
Except for those who read it and consider it to be based upon fact."
Yeah, but that's not Brown's fault. He's guilty of nothing more than making a ton of money as a writer of fiction.
Beach-read fiction at best...but fiction all the same. It's not his fault that the readers of it are ignorant fools.
"Not only does it make out Catholics to be monsters,"
Not ALL Catholics! Just those who are in Opus Dei! :)
I loved that film. Great adventure. I loved the way it took classic fictional literary characters and cast them into superhero/hero roles. Who knew Mr. Hyde had a soft side? Great stuff.
Because it's a big conspiracy the Catholic Church has come up with to get rich of stupid people. /sarcasm
"The unanswered Holy Grail question: If Jesus is just some guy that got crucified and had a baby, why should anyone care about his 'bloodline'?"
No No No!!
The unanswered Holy Grail question is:
What....is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow?
Is Roger Ebert a H-Mo?
Who is going to play the giant albino guy?
Do you mean gay? If so then the answer is no. He's married.
1) The name Quatermain being misspelled on his son's tombstone
2) Vampire Mina standing out in the sunlight during the day
3) Quatermain referring to Nemo's "automobile" as a "car", even though that would be a word he presumably wouldn't even know
but that's just nit-picky. I go to movies to be entertained.
I am sorry I was thinking about Rex Reed. I think he is loafer weight challenged.
