We're a republican county as you can see by the actions of the people.

Touching, uplifting, and one reason this is a great country.

Sounds like an episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition to me.

What's wrong with this picture???

"Radabaugh, a single mom with four children, decided to use her tax-refund money for a trip to Disney World with her kids rather than fix her leaking roof"

I admire the people who spent their money so she she could go on vacation using other taxpayer's money (which she received as tax credits).

Think about this, please.

What should have been a feel good story, quickly turned sour. The woman obviously has no clue of priorities. If a trip to Disney trumps a new roof, one can only imagine what else she throws her money at. I'm sitting here trying to tighten an already frugal budget and wouldn't dream of blowing it on high priced entertainment. With the high cost of gas, our outings are limited to geocaching (btw, the pricey gpsr was a gift). Education, great scenery, exercise, and excellent quality family time. What more can one ask.

You're absolutely right. Blow the income tax money and let someone else fix the roof.

If I knew where the place is I would run over there and ask if she minds if I took some pictures.

There may be more to her decision than we are aware. Obviously her neighbors thought highly enough of her.

Agreed. But lets jump to judgement without knowing it all anyway. My first thought was spendthrift, my second was she has a LOT of good friends who must know more about her and her situation than we do.

Nope, sorry, if there was something other than the usual family trip to Disney, such as a dying child or some other tug at the heartstring twist, it would have been reported.

Mixed feelings here. Nice that they did that, but Mom's not taking care of business if that roof doesn't come first.

What other poor choice will she make that the safety net who helped her out here can't fix?

There must be more to this story.

Yeah, really. I mean, she took her kids to Disney World. She didn't go on a drunken spring break sex-o-rama in Fort Lauderdale.

Her neighbors knew this and if they still wanted to fix up her house then they, the neighbors, must have a good reason.

I love these stories, but I always have to wonder...how do they pay the taxes on these gifts?

The government still allows tax-free gifts up to $11,000 per year per pair of individuals. I would be surprised if any of the individuals involved contributed more than that.
