Great news!
We have a homeschooled boy from Colorado that just won the state bee by besting 262 other students and will be going to nationals. He had only been studying since the beginning of February!

Excellent!
For the New Haven spelling bee, Marcucci, who is ranked 27th in the nation, studied a 400,000-word dictionary for about an hour-and-a-half per night.
That's impressive. He sure doesn't lack dedication.
But Marcucci isn't sitting home twiddling his thumbs. "I'm involved with boy scouts ... and go kayaking with them," he said. "I play Chess and then there's baseball in the summer."
Nicholas sounds well-grounded and like an all around nice kid.
Best of luck to him.

Here's the
article on the Colorado boy, from the Rocky Mountain News.

I have a confession to make....
He's actually my son, and I'm the proud papa...

Yes, really...and thanks!
Colorado homeschoolers are allowed to send 7 children to the state competition. In total, 263 children participated from all over Colorado.
The morning started with a 50- word written test, and the top 35 scores from the test advanced to the afternoon oral rounds. Six of the seven homeschoolers made it into the top 35.
After the bee was complete, the standings showed that homeschoolers took first, third, fifth, and sixth places! Not bad representation!
We're looking forward to heading to D.C. My son has never been there. Any spelling tips for him would be appreciated!

Thanks Graybeard58. The victory was unexpected and we're excited to see how God uses it! We were actually rooting for the third place finisher to win since it was his last year of eligibility. :-)

I thought you were Nicholas' father. You posted back to my #5. A little bit of posting confusion there, I'm sorry :)
I wish your son, Josiah the best of luck.
