From my personal experience, talking to Democrats/liberals and Republicans/conservatives alike, that does indeed appears to be the case.
This whole thing is over the top.
It only came about because the parents didn't agree with what MS and Terri's wishes were, and decided to sue/legislate to get their way. By supporting this, we are validating everything the Gore camp did by trying to sue/legislate their way into the White House.
This whole thing is a circus. Look at FR - you can't even get any other info right now because everyone is so hysterical/so full of their opinion/so inconsiderate that they're clogging the boards with this - as if nothing else of importance is happening in the world.
Additionally - look at the venom and name calling that goes on when someone DARES mention that it really isn't even slightly our business. It's not, after all. This is a very private hell between family members that someone chose to take all the way to the Supreme Court.
It's honorable to want your kid to live - and a natural part of parenting. But just like nobody can prove that Terri said she wouldn't want to live that way - nobody can prove that she did, either. And the original laws allowed for the spouse to make the desicion.
And you know what? That's the right way to look at it.
If all of the hysterical unproven accusations about MS are true, then he'll have to answer to God. In the meantime, Terri will pass, and go on to a better place where her arms/legs/brain work again. That's what I'd want for myself, not for someone to maintain me in some sort of pathetic shadow of what I had been, solely out of some misplaced (if well-intentioned) sense of duty.
There have even been folks here on FR that say that it doesn't matter what a person wishes, you should always keep them alive. How would you like to be married to these types of people? "I don't care what you want, as long as I'm comfortable with the situation.
How honorable is that?
I also find it ironoc that many on the Left who are supposedly all about compassion (gun control, no war, welfare, etc) are now all about "let the girl die"!
Conversely, there are many on the Right who normally about getting the government out of our business - and are now calling for "legislation for what ails us".
The good that will come of this is that hopefully folks will make their wishes known - AND get it in writing, so that people that know ZERO about the whole situation will have no opportunity to cram their wishes down your throat.
That is my main opinion in this whole mess:
A. It's really none of our business.
B. Make your wishes known, and get it in writing.
Of course, now I'll get to hear about how I'm some hellbound death cultist. That's the level of discourse here lately.
"I never did to begin with. However the whole Schiavo case did give me an idea. I'm thinking of putting up a big sign and starving to death a load of kittens. We'll see how soon the leftists and courts intervene. Just kidding..but that's part of the point. Kittens have more rights than people."
I said this before and I'll say it again: we should get a conservative legislator in every state to submit a bill that takes state animal cruelty laws and substitute "human" for "animal" verbatim. Obviously it would make little leadway but would have to be picked up by local media just for the uniqueness.
Second: Submit a bill in same said manner, but only in death penalty states, proposing to offer death-by-starvation/dehydration as an alternative for capitol punishment. Seems reasonable since we now know from the "experts" that the process is painless, peaceful and eventually euphoric.
Third: if there is another major relief for, say, Africa starvation then we should withold any funds that go to relief agencies that weighed in against Terri. Also refer to #2.
Two little girls were talking and one said to the other. "My Daddy's a lawyer". Second little girl says, honest? First litlle girl says "Nah, he's just the regular kind".
Wow. Way to support a person's/groups right to free speech.
Just the hysterics I'm talking about.......
And now, for your listening entertainment, the famous "Catwewauler" Elvis the Cat, singin' you ain nuthin but a hound dog. Take it away Elvis!
"Wow. Way to support a person's/groups right to free speech.

I should have been clearer. I meant PRIVATE FUNDS (Tsunamai comes to mind), not public. And not to withhold assistance just direct PRIVATE FUNDS to ethically strong efforts. This was aimed at Freepers/Conservatives as the first two examples afford.

Do you have any more decisions you have made that you would care to post a thread about?
You always have that opportunity with your own private funds.
Supporting an ability to dictate whether or not someone recieves other's money, solely based on them not agreeing with you on this unrelated topic, is why we should probably be glad that you don't make the rules.
We're also heading into a nazi regime by mid-next-week.
I got a package deal on my boots and uniforms.
Lol!
"You always have that opportunity with your own private funds."
That was my point so please don't accuse me of something unreasonable. I stated in all three examples (not very clear on the third) what private citizens can do - in the first two involving convincing a local politician (unless you are in a state where a citizen can submit a bill, or through a ballot initiative) and in the third, a suggestion of what PRIVATE CITIZENS could do with their PRIVATE FUNDS. I would think that giving money to a secular/socialist NGO would not be as desirable as to giving to a Christian NGO.
I apoligize that I am a two-finger typist therefore can not type as fast as I can think. That, combined with quick proofreading, can result in false impressions.
I understand. Thanks for the clarification.......
Thanks. I appreciate that.
Thanks. I appreciate that.
Vanity or not, I know how you feel. Right now I'm fighting hating liberals with a fierce hatred.
His mouse would probably appreciate a switch to decaf.
