Over This, Your White Grave

Over this, your white grave
the flowers of life in white--
so many years without you--
how many have passed out of sight?
Over this your white grave
covered for years, there is a stir
in the air, something uplifting
and, like death, beyond comprehension.
Over this your white grave
oh, mother, can such loving cease?
for all his filial adoration
a prayer:
Give her eternal peace--

Karol Wojtyla (Pope John Paul II)
[Krakow, spring 1939]

Morning Sam.

Lovely poem by Pope John Paul. This man is greatly missed by the world. He was a man to respect.

He left this world in a better place than what it was when he arrived on this planet. He suffered greatly the loss of his family at a young age and somehow grew up with grace.

Thanks for poetry, coffee, tunes, and donuts. Most importantly your daily visit to the Lair.

I do not envy the job of the 15 Cardinals who must choose the next Pope. As the old saying goes "how do you follow an act like that" ??

April is Poetry Month

Spring Song
by Robert Louis Stevenson

THE air was full of sun and birds,
The fresh air sparkled clearly.
Remembrance wakened in my heart
And I knew I loved her dearly.

The fallows and the leafless trees
And all my spirit tingled.
My earliest thought of love, and Spring's
First puff of perfume mingled.

In my still heart the thoughts awoke,
Came lone by lone together -
Say, birds and Sun and Spring, is Love
A mere affair of weather?

When freedom does not have a purpose, when it does not wish
to know anything about the rule of law engraved in the
hearts of men and women, when it does not listen to the
voice of conscience, it turns against humanity and society.
