I think she looks like the dark bay coloring that is very common in warmbloods, and they sometimes have the lighter muzzle rather than the dark. She's really very beautiful.

I wish I had my camera:) I was looking at Rocky's color yesterday. I've always thought is so weird, in the spring his shoulders are dappled black, then as the summer progresses it turns golden. HIs hips do that some too, but not as much as his shoulders.

Rusty has lightened up a bunch again too. Not so bay looking.

I have a call in to the vet. I want to talk to her about Rusty. If she thinks she needs to see him, I'm going to go ahead and take him. It might be tonight before she can get back too me tho, her receptionist said with foal season here she is very busy.

My pony changes a lot with the seasons. In the winter she's nearly black in the neck and shoulder, she has a dun stripe, and I just noticed her muzzle is a little lighter than the rest of her... here's some pics Markie just took.

In summer she's more evenly red, like in the who's who pic.

In some lighting conditions or coat mood swings, she's dappled.

That's exactly what Rocky's coat does, except he gets gold instead of red:)

You have to find some solution to the camera problem!

ecurbh really likes my dad's that we borrowed for the trip better than our own. It's even smaller than ours and the design of it better, probably, for protecting it when we bang it around on trail rides. When it's turned off the lens completely recedes flush and there are fewer nobs and buttons that look vulnerable if it gets dropped. And it takes even higher resolution pictures than ours does.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Of the three I tested, two negative, one positive. The positive is a colt so he'll get gelded real quick. Off topic here, but I talked to the woman who owns the stud this colt is off of last summer when we got him. She flat out stated she only shows and stands positive horses. The stud is advertised with no reference to HYPP and as homozgous black. She's lost three studs to *colic*

I can't imagine the filly turning much lighter either. Browns do lighten up around the muzzle and flanks though.

I know, I just keep forgetting to take it with me when I go to town. I think there is a place in Bixby I can at least have it looked at.

What kind of camera does your dad have?

Have you ever body clipped him? I bet he'd be hard to get to come out good, he'd darken in those patches where the root is dark. Pony would turn nearly black if I clipped her, her hair starts out black at the root and lightens.

Bay has a ~really~ impossible hair to clip. I'm glad I never showed him. His hairs are actually three colors. around his face they start out black, turn yellow in the middle of the hair, and then get redder, so if you clip him, he comes out three different colors, and it looks really funny. Sometimes in spring I'll clip his neck and girth area in a modified hunter clip, to get rid of the hair, but it looks funny, the clipped areas look a starkly different yellow. There's a name for that... when the hairs themselves vary in color from root to end, but I don't remember what it is.

No we've never clipped him. He doesn't grow that much winter coat, and he sheds out fast and early. He's already almost done. If I clipped him it would have to be in the winter:)

I finally got the time to look at all the pictures on your blog. Wow! That is SO nice. You've got some really nice pictures there. My favorite is one of your trail rides where you're riding through all those huge ferns and trees with moss on them. I've never seen anything like it. I'd LOVE to ride there!

I clipped Blade's bridle path, ears and throatlatch area yesterday and he looks really funny because his hair is nearly white underneath. I plan on finishing up his whole body this weekend and I dread it coz his hair is so THICK and wavy. He'll look like he's been scalped for a few weeks, but it's the best I can do.

I just went and looked back at those trail ride pics too... sigh.... I can't wait for spring. :~D

This blog thing is new... we used to send out an email newsletter to share news and pics with family, but this is a lot easier format.

Yeah... he'd be tough because of the roaning.

That reminds me! Sorry I am such a scatter brain today! I asked ecurbh to load that video, and he did, and I just tried to post it for everyone, but the uploaded file won't play. I don't know why. The original you emailed played just fine.

I'm running behind today. The kids all showed up to visit awhile. They're gone now, lunch is done, so I'm off to ride Harley, I'm going to hold off on Rusty till I talk to the vet.

When I get back, I'm going to get some stuff move around and Harley's run and stall cleaned up good to move Belle there. I'm going to keep her in that run for the birth, then move her back to the arena. In the run I'll be able to keep track of her easier. But I was lax this winter keeping it mucked good, and Harley uses it for nothing but a bathroom:(, That's the only time almost that he goes in...

She's just 5 wks and 3 days away for due date:). I will have a camera working by then.

Becky

It works fine for me. Hopefully it'll work for everyone else.

I took this little snippet because I thought he looked so cute "chasing cars". He does this every day when I drive in the pasture to feed. Some days I think he's going to jump ON TOP of the jeep.

The little digital camera I took it with is pretty nice. We bought it at (the Great Satan) Wal-Mart before our cruise for a little over $100. It doesn't take pictures as good as our other digital, but I like the video clip function and the fact that it stores it on a regular compact flash chips. I've got 30 days to take it back, but I'm thinking I'll keep it.

The clip above appears to work just fine, and the problem is mine.... check it out! My camera has a video function too, but I've never tried it. I think I will sometime!
