I always thought that they were about the same each year, and that's how I figured due dates. This year, however, both of my mares that have foaled were off from previous foalings. The two that are due mid month or so, started getting bags two or three weeks ago, which is really early.

Everything seems off this year for some reason. We found on Farah and Dusty the only indication that was right was waxing up within 24hrs of foaling.

I have read numerous articles that say mares follow the same pattern from pregnancy to pregnancy. That was one reason I wrote everything down when she was pregnant with Dot.

Oh well, so much for our attempts at predicting nature:) Keeps is more exciting anyway.

Is Bart ond of those "sooty" palominos or was he just dirty?

Truly started bagging up about 2wks or so before she foaled, but she didn't get REALLY big until a day or so beforehand. She was rock hard the afternoon before she foaled.

See, that's weird, I've never seen "waxing", at least I don't think I have. I'm assuming it's pretty easy to see and tell what it is?

He's a sooty palomino and only partially shed out yet. They are all in the midst of shedding, it's just more noticable with him.

There will be drops of milk at the ends of the teats that have hardened and it looks like wax almost. I guess it works as a plug until the baby is born. I'm not sure that all mares develope that, but our two did, previously and this year.

I thought so. I didn't even know there was such a thing as a "sooty" gene until we all were discussing Becky's Harley several months back and whether or not he was one and you posted a link to a site about horse color genetics. It's interesting.

Cyn's registration over to us before it gets lost and forgotten.

Is she registered Half Arabian? If so, they had a special rate for a awhile. It ended on March 31st. We tried to find the breeder's certificate for Jody. but it is lost. We had never registered her. Her dam was registered, but not her sire. They were both purebreds too. We could have least had her registered as Half-Arabian. Now, she will be a grade horse. I don't remember if they had a deal on transferring, which was what you guys would be doing.

I'm taking Bluebell to be checked this afternoon. She's supposed to foal next week and she just doesn't look like it at all. I know it's a waste of money, but I just GOTTA know. She looked more pregnant 2 months ago than she does now. Go figure.

Well good luck. Hope everything is OK. It will probably be this evening before my vet gets back to me.

Has Bluebell had a foal before?

Oh - it'd be our luck to have missed the sale ;~D

Yes, she's registered half Arab... Daddy was Arab, her momma was mustang. It's a transfer of sale.

She's had 5. Blade, who was at her side when I got her, was her 3rd. Bob was her 4th and Hope her 5th. So she's definately an old pro at it. I hope I'm just worrying for nothing. I don't think she's slipped it without me knowing, but she could've I guess.

I didn't know about the sooty thing either till we talked about here in regards to Harley.

Last week when Celia was coming out she noticed the spots he gets on his rump that look appy. She asked me who that horse was:) When I told her Harley she was surprised. She seems to think he has some app breeding somewhere in him. I don't know if I mentioned last year that he not only has that large dark spot on his one shoulder, but he also has a smattering of dark spots over his rump. They showed up last year very pronounced in the spring, then faded to where you couldn't see them. He has them again this spring.

I looked at the picture of your palamino again, and his smuttyness is different that Harley's. Have you ever seen smuttyness that is more spots? Harley has been DNA tested according to his papers, could he still have app in him somewhere? Wish I could take a picture to show you, but it looks like app spots.

Yea, she is, but I just took Hope off her a couple of weeks ago so I really can't go by that. It might be that she's just slicked off so much that she just looks thinner. You know how wooly winter coat can make them look big even when they're not.

That's what I'm worrying about too. I can't imagine that I missed it. Good heavens she's been right out there in my arena. Her sides are sticking out more, but she is also getting fed very good:).

I remember Duchess, and Rose talking about their pregnant mares seeming to be moving slower and being miserable. Belle isn't acting anything like that. If I turn her out in the arena she runs and bucks and kicks.

I sure hope Bluebell is still in foal.

Me too, but if she's not, I gotta start working on getting her bred back. At least there's a LFG on the breeding, so it won't cost me anything (other than a wasted year) if she's not.

Well if Belle has lost another one, I'm probably screwed again with another unsaleable horse except to killers:(

I always figured if I ever did sale her it could be as a brood mare. Loosing 2 in a row would not be good, as I would have to disclose that, and she is not safe to ride.

sigh....I'm tired of horses with problems.
