Well I just got back from a trail ride that was much needed. It was rather rough going because there's still lots of snow ice and mud out there. I had to, (or rather the horse had to) climb a HUGE snow drift. He brought himself up to the top, bucked, and then tried to launch himself off the top. I almost came off. :-) There were a couple of obligatory spooks, but all in all it was a great ride.
PS. I didn't bring a camera because I didn't expect to go. But I wish that you guys could have seen the drift.

Today has gone by quite smoothly.
I talked to one of my friends on the phone, she says misses me. Her brother promises me to make a nice burger when I get home. Can't wait!
The horses are outside grazing.
They looked peaceful earlier in the morning. I'd really like to ride but I also don't' want to get hurt. So I guess I'll go out and brush Bay-man.
TOODLES!!
To: CindyDawg
Oh my goodness - okay, on antibiotics and you must mean banamine - that would be for pain/relaxation. I don't know what else you could try right now. Did the vet take blood for a blood test? Is he isolated and is it possible to take him to the vet clinic for care?

What a day. Last night he seemed different. Just slow moving I asked the owner to keep an eye out for him. I was afraid he might be getting ready to colic but he was pooping real good and eating. Eddie checked him about 8. Still dragging so going to have the vet look at him. I came out about 10. The owner told me he and another horse sick and had called her vet who would be out this afternoon. I took one look at him and we called for an ER visit. He was down on his legs in the hay. I though he was dead but he kind of raised his head when I walked up. I had to almost drag him with his halter to get up. He kept falling back down. He was also diaphoretic and staggering when he walked. I cooled him down hoping I wouldn't colic him and he perked up a little. The owner was concerned he had some kind of horse diphtheria. The vet said rhinopneumanitis. He gave him about 5 cc of banamine IV and we started him on septra. I had to cool him down again but his fever finally broke. He was looking worn and puny and slinging snot everywhere but much better when I left. No lab. The vet feels it is viral but put on antibiotics to build his immunity and preventively. He's in the pasture. He shares water with the mares and the pastures butt so they have all been exposed. I wasn't allowed to stall him because babies in the barn. I'm tired.

Sorry, to hear about Okie. I hope he gets better. They bring in any new horses lately?
To: Beaker
Wow, you still got ice and snow? It sounds like you had a lot of fun, good for you. Sure wish it would warm up here.
To: MissTargets
They come and go. The owner worried. She says it's like day care and they all may get sick. She's esp concerned about the babies and a couple of expecting mares. I could have slapped the vet though:') He was feeling Okies glands and told me "see this? In Stranglers(?) this gland will swell until it compresses on the trachea and a horse can't breath but....he doesn't have stranglers"
To: MissTargets
What I was wanting to ask yall was that he seemed very hungry for grass or hay. I didn't know if that was ok. I tried keeping it from him but finally just figured maybe it was something his body was needing. As his fever dropped he slowed down.

Thanks. I just called and he's still up and eating grass. He ate about half his supper feed.
