Hi Chris, prayers for your kitty.

Have any of your cats ever been tested for FIV? As outdoor cats, they have a higher chance of catching it. A simple blood test will reveal that answer. But with the sudden onset of symptoms, I'm inclined to think your kitty had an allergic reaction to the vaccine. Your vet should be keeping her for observations, period. And, if the vet suspected FIV, the cat should be in quarantine.

Call your vet and insist your kitty be kept for observations. If they refuse, go to another vet.

Thanks for asking:

I just got through with her 2nd treatment today (TLC, hydrate with IV via sub-cutaneous, fed via syringe with about x2 tablespoons of a/d wet cat food, and a couple of tablespoons of oral water). She also got a 1/2 teaspoon of nutrical.

Her behavior is a little better, as in she is moving around a little (10 feet at a time every 30 mins or so) and when she is next to me, she likes to get real close and purr.

I will give another update and food/water regimen at 10:30-11:30 tonight CST.

Thanks for all the prayers...looks like a little vitality is coming back. Hopefully she doesn't slip backwards a little and "crash" on me.

Thanks again for the prayers, from both of us.

Chris

PS Vet was out of town today, but did call to check up on. He said that if she is keeping down food and water (which she is) and urinating and deficating, that means that everything is theoretically working. He may stop by the house tommorrow AM on the way to work to save Casey the stress of the car ride in the dreaded pet-taxi.

Geez, if she has made it this far, maybe she'll work through it! Very encouraging, especially since your vet, who seems to be great by the way, didn't think she would make it till Monday. I will keep my fingers crossed. I know how unbearable it is to watch them, not knowing how it will work out.

All my best to you and all your little sweeties.

Late late late for work.

Real quick, she is still not wanting to eat on her own or to drink on her own. Gave her Sub q hydraytion, a/d cat food, and nutrical. She DID, though deficate and urinate on her own, though, bless her heart, was really hard for her. She did however, purr a little when I put her on the couch and left for work. She just doesn't LOOK that good, yet good things happened this am.

My mom is coming over currently to have a changing of the guard.

Keep up the prayers, I still feel guilty for not going to church yesterday, and staying with Casey while playing xbox.

Sigh....thanks again.

CHris

Just got home from work. Mom said that she is not moving much, just 10-20 feet. She looks like she is in a little pain. Just fed her and about to put her in the dreaded pet taxi. Vet wants to see her for 2nd round of blood tests and give me another IV bag.

Will post later. Mom thinks that she is doing better than Sat, but I think she is doing worse than SUN, her best day so far. She is still far from being out of the woods.

Prayers still necessary.

THanks again!

Chris

Prayers for you and your baby girl. At her age, it'll likely take her a little longer to bounce back than it used to.

Pain or not she is purring because she loves you and being near you. You are a comfort to her. I hope all goes well for you. Please keep us posted.

Yeah, JUST got back from vet. We had a 5pm cst appt, and it was 7 before he came in for a while. We know him personnally, but most of it was chat.

Casey had another blood test and the results were a little better. Her liver numbers came down considerably, but her kidney numbers were greater than 130. He wants the kidney numbers ALOT lower. We have changed from A/D cat food to K/D to try to bring those numbers down.

While there, Casey got a B12 shot Sub Q and that seemed to perk her up a little. While there, most of the time she slept in the cage while we waited in his office where it was quiet and warm. She was also put on a different IV which should be better for her with more electrolytes and has good results on keeping distress away from kidneys.

She is by far, not out of the woods yet. He said that even though SUN was a good day for both of us, and Monday was pretty good, things can go bad QUICK with kidney failure. Cats are wierd when it comes to that.

Anyways, I am to increase her dosage of food to 30cc's x3-4 times a day, preferrbaly every 6 hours. He also put in a leg stint/flush, and taped the heck out of her arm, so I don't have to do sub-q all the time and can just do it intraveinously. I am former medic, so I have a little experience with IV bags, but am TOTALLY unfamiliar with the vein structure or anatomy of a cat like my vet is.

All in all, it was a good visit and Casey seemed to be doing soooo much better than SAT. MON (today) wasnt the best day, but it could have been alot worse. Everyone at the vet clinic that saw her FRI PM and SAT morning asked if it was the same cat because of how much more alert and full of life she looked.

I told them that the vet that said she probably wouldn't make it to MON owes me one.

I guess I should have told them the power of prayer and Freepers?!

Will keep you updated with her progress tommorrow....we going to bed.
