The Passion sucked ... much too Roman Catholic for me...
I stopped watching when both Marys were wipeing up Jesus' blood with rags like a coupla groupies wiping up Elvis sweat at a perfomance at the Sands.. my BS'o'meter went off like a smoke detector.. Some liked it though, I didn't..

I think the film was a serious candidate for a major award. Best movie. Best actor. Best actress. The roles of Jesus and Mary were spectacularly performed--Cazaviel particularly gave a historically memorable performance.
The Cinematography nomination makes sense, and it's an important award artistically, but it doesn't mean much to most moviegoers.

Well, who would have accepted the award for best writer? Or screenplay? Or whatever they give awards for the person who wrote the book the movie was based on.

LOL I've been snubbing them for years. They put out and honor nothing I want to see.

I tend to think that The Passion's nomination in, "best make up" category was Hollywood's cynical one finger salute to the depiction of Christ's suffering on the cross. C'mon. There was no other film which came even close in that category. It was also nominated foir Cinematography and Score, both of which I think it will win.

Re 'I have not forgotten'. . .I was actually referring to the Hollywood elite's campaigning against George Bush; rather than their 'losing it' over the 'Passion'. . .
In Hollywood's case, the medium, of course is the 'first message'; but then they personally climbed on the 'anti-America' bandwagon; rabidly, talked the talked. . .that was enough of 'them' for me. ..
At the same time. . .their frothing, rediculous response to Mel's Passion; was over the top.
