Actually, I believe none of us really knows.
That's the dilemma. The community produced the writings, the writings didn't produce the community. And the same community that decided which writings survived is the same that gave you the perpetual virginity of Mary, Sabbath on Sunday, Christmas on Mithra, apostolic/papal succession, and on and on. Just some food for thought.
There were plenty of early Christian community's BEFORE the RCC came in to being. Just some food for thought.

True but none of them got decide which few writings among the very many got to survive. The counsel that decided was in the 300's.

The RCC is a Shadow of REAL Christiantiy, its the only reason we have anything in common, there are specks of truth in the RCC.

Guess I just wonder then, if God directed them so infallibly with decisions regarding what the NT contained and at the same period of time were coming up with doctrines about Mary other things, why you reject the other things? Who decides that God was with them in one area and not the others?
