Howdy, Mack!

Glad January is over. Now I can get back to my more customary level of insanity! ;o)

I still have to transmit my federal W-2 file, but since I do it electronically, I have until 3/31. Probably get that out later this week, as I have to manually edit out two duplicate records and correct the totals.

I took the kids down to Milwaukee this weekend, and they met Stacy for the first time. We went to the Milwaukee Children's Museum, and then out to dinner at Applebees. We had a great time! The kids really enjoyed the museum. And they took to Stacy very well (not surprising, considering that she's a teacher). I introduced her as a 'friend', of course. They both thought she was nice (Gavin told me, "Dad, that friend of yours, she's pretty and nice!" ;o), and want to get together with her again sometime. Stacy thought the kids were delightful, enjoyed meeting them, and had a great time, too. Fortunately, the kids were well-behaved! ;o)

How do you keep from going nuts with all the paper work?

If I could, someone else would be doing mine and I would spend my time elsewhere.

So when ya getting married?

Still on the road?

No, just have annoying "customers" who want me to think about why their software is acting strangely.

How do you keep from going nuts with all the paper work?

Over the years, as the business has grown, I've done less and less other stuff, and focused more and more on the accounting/tax/finance stuff. I have a full-time assistant who handles most of the payroll and benefits duties. And an IT manager who is good at creating useful reports for me.

In some ways, all the reporting has gotten easier over the years, because more and more of it is now done electronically and over the internet. In the past, for example, I had to send in the state W-2 submission with a paper reconciliation form, and the data on a floppy disk. This year, for the first time, I was able to file the report and upload the data file over the internet.

There is still a lot to keep track of, to make sure that I don't miss any filing or deposit dates. I use the Task Manager in Microsoft Outlook to remind me of when things need to be done. This works especially well for recurring events. I don't have to enter them in continually; when I check off an item, it autmatically creates another entry for the next time I need it.

Really, though, much of what I do isn't more than what a company with fewer employees would have to do. The reports, tax filings and deposits are all the same; the numbers are just bigger. And because this is the bulk of what I do, I am able to maintain a pretty good handle on what needs to be done. Like anything else, you do it enough and you learn it.

If I could, someone else would be doing mine and I would spend my time elsewhere.

You can do that now. Have you ever looked into outsourcing all your payroll? There are companies that will take care of all this stuff for you, and only charge you a few percent of the total payroll cost.

So when ya getting married?

No plans to get married, and don't know that I ever will remarry. I can have a social life without entering into a legal obligation. IF I ever decide to remarry, there will definitely be a prenup.

From what I read, there is no foundation for a pre-trib rapture or removal of the righteous at all.

Of course not. "The rapture" is the biggest scam perpetuated on the American public since one-hour Martinizing.

Sounds like fun. We took Sarah to Wall Mart last night and she made the trip without any "pull up" at all. I know it's late and some people crack the whip, but we've been patient with her potty training, especially since she was a bit premature and lacked physical control for a while.

Got a new vacuum cleaner and a new deep fryer. Well, "Kitche Kettle." It roasts, it steams, it boils, it braises. You can steam fish and make rice and create casseroles. It's a wonder-tool.

No, it's a deep fryer. Once you put the oil in and make some shrimp or fish, you're never going to use it for anything else. But, they have to make it look good, like they're not encouraging you to deep fry foods. But Lent is coming up and the old one started smoking.

They apparently now have microwave pork rinds. In a variety of flavors. Zero carbs and 70% less fat than regular fried pork rinds. The things you see at Wall Mart.

Ever read a software license? Not just click "YES", but actually read it. There's basically no guarantee that any piece of software will ever do anything that you thought it might do. Liability is related to replacing the media it came on.

It's the greatest scam perpetuated on the American public since, well, you know.

Why do you call it a scam ?

Who's profiting from the belief (other than a few writers) ?

It's simply a particular understanding of last days events ... one of many.

And as a matter of fact .. as scams go ... certainly nothing tops the collection of indulgences in Luther's day.

We did the same for our kids. I never saw the point in pushing it if they weren't ready.

No, it's a deep fryer.

I've never owned a deep fryer. The only time I eat fried food is if I'm at a restaurant. I eat healthier at home that way, and I wouldn't like the cleanup involved anyway.

I'm too small to hire anybody, its not the money.

My acct does my payroll and qt reports and ANYTHING I can get him to do.

Yep. How many consumer products are there where defects are assumed to exist and are accepted as a matter of course?

I saw a week or two ago that Microsoft announced that they would not provide patches to unlicensed software. Now, maybe there isn't a deliberate effort to issue vulnerable software, but they certainly are taking advantage of their product defects to increase the risk and cost of unlicensed use.

My sister is the same way. Me, I hate the "front office" functions of sales and dealing with employees. That's why we work together so well -- we complement one another.

So I guess you've never had a deep-fried pierogie? You don't know what you're mising. You can make your own chicken fingers too, and experiment with the spices. And calamari rings. Yummy. Plus, the grocery store here sells a lot of fish for Lent, and you can buy it already breaded but take it home to cook it instead of bringing home cold sandwiches. So what if there's a little grease left on it? What're ya gonna do, steam rice in it? The shrimpy smell might throw off your next casserole? ;-)

So I guess you've never had a deep-fried pierogie?

No, but I've had baked pasties.

According to John L. Hoh, Jr., of Milwaukee, "pasties were a meat-potatoes-carrot-rhutabaga concoction brought over from Wales by Welsh miners coming to mine copper in Michigan's Upper Peninsula and in the mines of Southwest Wisconsin. This Yooper delight is now available in Appleton."

Calamari and shrimp are unkosher, so I wouldn't be eating them anyway. ;o)

Plus, the grocery store here sells a lot of fish for Lent, and you can buy it already breaded but take it home to cook it

Or I could get carry-out or dine in. Or make my butter-sauteed lemon-pepper fish on the stovetop. Mmm!

What're ya gonna do, steam rice in it?

I cook rice in a saucepan, so I guess I really don't need a fancy crypto-deep fryer! ;o)
