Didn't the Jets win?
Ok, now the news bimbette is interviewing Edwards. Get lost babe.
I am basically indifferent to the outcome although I slightly wanted SD to win. I just don't care for the NFL:
1. Fining people for legal hits in games.
2. Treating QBs differently because they are QBs and the star of the team.
Football has long had rules against roughing the passer and the kicker. The reason for this was that the act of passing and kicking require that the player put themselves in a vulnerable position. They recently added a prohibition at least in college requiring a delay before hitting a long snapper for similar reasons.
But notice the rule is THE PASSER not the QB. The act of passing is what puts one in a vulnerable position. In this particular case the hit was clean. It was called illegal because of silly NFL rules. To try to block a pass, DL must put your hands in the air. Plus the QB is holding the ball up by his head. You have to go for it when going for a drop back passer.
"And you care about the Jets? Be ashamed."
Yeah, at least pick a decent team like USC or something.
The forearm was a stupid move and every bit a penalty. The Chargers gave the Jets a gift when they didn't go for 2 at the end of regulation, especially if they didn't have confidence in their kicker. Oh well, woulda coulda shoulda. See you in New England if the visitor-wins trend continues.
haha.......are we not the party of law and order....was that blow not against the rules.....dear sir, as a repub you should want us to follow the rules and flag those that violate those rules......again as a true Republican.
If you look at old NFL films from the sixties and seventies, practically every defensive highlight would be a penalty today. In a lot of those old films, all four defensive linemen would collaps on the quarterback, and helmet to helmet hits were just part of the game. Clotheslines used to get huge cheers. Deacon Jones developed a head slap where he would cup his hand, and first crack out of the box, pop the offensive lineman right over his ear hole. He said the cupping of the hand would create an air pocket that would make the offensive lineman's ear pop, and after he did it a few times, the offensive player couldn't hear the snap count because of the ringing in his ears.
I still remember Nolan Smith, the "mighty gnat" for the KC Chiefs getting strung out by a clothesline on a kickoff return. He got caught right in the neck, and went parallel to the ground, with his feet at the same level as his head, before he fell.
The players are so much bigger and faster now, that the NFL is having a tough time keeping them from killing each other.
Cliff Harris of the Dallas Cowboys once said that the way he liked to see wide receivers was unconscious with a snot bubble coming out of his nose. He'd probably get fined for just saying that today.
I agree, that was such a bogus call. If people think that was intentional, I think you need to get professional help. I wouldn't even call that a "blow" to the head. It was a tap when his arm was coming down with his body. But as a Jet fan, that was the best game of the year no doubt.
Here's a clue: Wait until the outcome of the game before you complain about the outcome of the game.
Well actually what I said was, I hoped that a NY team losing a playoff game because of the rule would cause them to revisit it. I did not say I wished it were not called.
As it ended up, it did not cost the NY team a playoff game. Too bad in my view.
Jets fan here...it was a good call.
As a fan in the stands, you undoubtedly thought it was a love tap. Lace 'em up and get on the playing field and see if you feel the same way after taking one for the team.
