I'm ground driving her... long lining or driving is an additional skill they can have, I can turn her with either rein to get more precision circle her, stop her, back her up or do figure 8's. Anything you could do under saddle.

It's better with a circingle like this, keeps the lines where they should be...

...but my circingle won't fit the pony, and the line around the pony's butt and touching her as she's learned to do was actually a good desensitizing lesson for her.

The stuff I buy has to come from catalogs unless we go into San Antonio or Houston. Our feed stores carry basic meds and a little bit of ropes and halters but that's about it. We have a TSC about an hour away with a little more variety but nothing to write home about. Eddie and I went to a StatelineTack in Houston awhile back and just spent hours browsing:')

Good morning!

Does anyone plan on attending Ohio's Equine Affaire? (April 7-10)

I'm reading all the posts I missed.

I don't feed alfalfa because my HYPP horse can't have it. Otherwise, I might keep a little on hand for treats.

Do you ever worry about blister beetles in your alfalfa?

Still catching up on past posts, guys. Sorry.

Frog, from what I understand, alfalfa is just bad for horses with certain illnesses, like HYPP. It's high in potassium, something HYPP horses can't have because it can set off a "fainting" episode.

Getting shocked at the store is weird. I wouldn't have gone back, either. Shame they couldn't figure out what was causing it. Is the building just standing empty now?

We had a Thoroughbred gelding, that was a terrible puller when tied. The multiple halters and ropes were tried, but he always managed to break them. Even the good Valhoma's snaps would break. A BE NICE HALTER worked really well. He soon learned that there was pain with pulling, and he could not break the halter.

So what's a poor restaurant owner to do?

Well, most restaurants do have smoking & non-smoking. It's the owners choice. It's when the govt. tells them what to do, that I don't like.
Try reading some of the smoking threads, if you get a chance. I don't really want to bring it to this thread. You would be so surprised, how some FReepers insult smokers.

That's the type of halter I use for a puller. Works good. One time I had one that continued to pull even in that. I cut one of the poll straps off so that there was only one across the poll to tie, then wrapped that one strap with baling wire where it crossed the poll. That did the trick. After a few times of going back, you could see he would start then think twice about it.

Animal Advocates has a program where they'll discount your animal's neutering.

I would have to drive to Youngstown (Ohio), and I don't really want to do that. 30 mile trip, and not the best neighborhood. The cost of the spay and neuter is not bad, it's all the shots, they want to give them.
Thanks for the suggestion. :)

I bet you are excited about going to NM. I can't wait until April to get to that log cabin.

I know, and agree, that gets costly. My dogs only get rabis shot's. It's the only thing they can get that is a danger to humans. My old vet that died last year was very good to not push the other stuff except maybe for parvo in puppies. I did do that.We have a vet in town that caters to the town people. When I went there once, he acted appalled that I would let him give my dog all that other stuff. You'd think I was some kind of animal abuser:). That dog live to be about 11, and died from a kick in the head from a horse. Now if they had a shot for that, I might think about it:)
