I think I'll try the vet wrap. They can walk around with short pink tails for awhile. I really hate that they lost them but I'm worried that maybe they need something they aren't getting or are going to make themselves sick or something.

I put the picture on my desktop and then zoomed it in. I can see something on the bottom towards the front of the eye - is that it?

Zoomed in any tighter it just gets more and more pixilated...
She might have had a bit of grass in her eye, but I don't think that is what caused the puncture ~wound~... Did you take a picture of the wound? I'm not seeing it on this side.

We mix it with diesel and used motor oil. That seems to work here. Can't buy creosote any more.

Hopefully they won't just switch to pulling off the vet wrap ;~D

,You can't see the punture wound. It's in the black area and the hole closed up today. It was about the length of an eyelash but longer after I pulled it out. It was plant or soaked splinter looking and I guess working it's way out. It wasn't visable yesterday.
To: HairOfTheDog
Okay, back to tail bags. Vet wrap in their stomachs would not be good.

No this was not in her eye. It started at the "hole area" and the rest of it came out of that area.

You think it was a splinter in her eye that abcessed out? I guess that's possible, if she had poked her eye, that a splinter stayed... but I don't see a wound there that would have required treatment and a tetanus shot yesterday... Are you saying it's there and already healed?

I'm going to run a wire down that post Harley is eating before he caves in my barn:)
That'll be a surprise if he doesn't see it first. :-)

I don't understand either. How big was the puncture wound?

On the 'were any of her parents appys?' side issue... she sure does have a lot of white visible in her eyes... but then so does my pony, who probably isn't appy ;~D

No abscess or signs of infection. You can't see the site because it's in the black skin area and it was a large nail head hole or wire size and she bled all down her face. I'm just saying I think something plant like broke off and was working it's way out like splinters do. I'm confused regarding the size of the puncture hole though. The size of the hole has never been a people issue regarding tetanus . The bacteria anaerobic .
To: HairOfTheDog
The white around her eye caught my attention first, but then her hooves are striped too.
I've been spending a lot of time reading and looking at pictures on that appaloosaproject site and it seems that several lines, particularly Mighty Bright, carry the genes for some of the paint color patterns.

OK - it's just hard for us to see that an injury happened there at all, there's no sign of it in the picture... and I suppose that's good news!

Good grief. You might try a google search. I guarantee there is somebody out there that has had the same problem. I don't have a clue.
To: CindyDawg
The size wouldn't matter regarding the tetanus shot - but if there is a puncture wound site, I think it should be kept open so that it doesn't get infected and heal over the infection.
You have more medical knowledge than I do but would a splinter or thorn or something working its way out cause bleeding?

Isn't it awful? I've had foals play with tails and maybe pull on them, but these horses look like the goats got to them.

I think it's just imagination but I love old west history, I read about it every chance I can get. My favorite is the Donner party stuff.
