Perhaps, but at least you got the pictures! :-)
What's going on with the stray dog? I missed something.

We found a dog at the store next door on Christmas Eve... and took him in. We put up :found dog" flyers and an ad in the paper, but didn't get any calls that were for him...

Until yesterday, I got a call from this really weird woman (337)

She didn't show up today - yet.

Ya think? :~D can you tell in the hat and with all the gear on?

He thought everyone looked good - fussed and looked at the scratchy pony for some time, He couldn't find any lice or obvious parasite... we ended up not doing anything definitive about it. since it wasn't ~too~ bad, and since she doesn't have a job :~D

Bay was funny and a little scary for me when he was drunk. He looked so old and wobbly. But he's snapped back now. The girls didn't need to have their teeth done yet, might do Cyn in the spring.

And he was impressed with Cyn... thought she looked pretty and healthy and sound. ;~D

Yes, he liked your horse, even though she was a little bit of a snot. ;~D

Horses are funny when their sedated:). Their legs always remind me of horses in cartoons with the wavy legs:)

Cyn is a nice horse:). I'm glad everything check out with her. What did he think about the stifle thing.

Why a snot?

Becky

She doesn't have great ground manners, she's pushy, and was a little temperamental with him handling her rear end. She's the kind of horse, I think who gets a little snotty when she's being fed a lot of calories and not handled much for a month ;~D Nothing major.

He didn't think he should do much about the stifle thing, that conditioning her, perhaps working her over poles would help.

Well she's pretty young. She'll probably get over the snottiness.

Sounds good about the stifle thing. Why does working them over poles help?

The poles force her to engage her rear end instead of just dragging it along with her. That builds the tricep muscle on the front of the thigh that lifts the leg. It's weakness in that muscle that causes them to lock up when they weren't intending to.

Ground poles are good for working on impulsion because they'll work pretty hard to avoid hitting them. I'm gonna have to make some new poles, I've used a lot of them up for posts and repairs in the last few years.

About 8-12 poles, halfway around a lunge circle, so they can re-coup for the other half, works really well. Tires them out quickly you can't do a lot of it consecutively, and don't need to.

Oh my goodness Hair. That woman is many levels of bizzare and scary. If she knocks on your door, just pretend that you aren't there. The dog seems like a nice dog. You should keep it if no one claims it. Did it have a collar or anything?

Luckily my driveway is gated and padlocked, so if she comes, I'll meet her out there. No one can just end up at the door un-noticed :~D

If you do make her trot over poles that are fanned out, I wonder if she'll jump them like my horse used to do all the time. I could NEVER ever get him to trot over poles like that. No matter how many, he would always decide to take a giant leap instead of trotting over them like he was supposed to. If they were laid out straight he'd do it. But then again, he was a quirky fellow. I'll see if I can dig up some old pictures of him and scan them in this weekend.

They'll try that if they are accustomed and easy going jumping, especially when you are just starting them out with one or two poles that they could easily clear. Bay makes a mess of poles, and I never worked on fixing it because he didn't really need the benefit. He has good impulsion and extension and it was really just a game. I set them up for the pony really, and even after she knew what she was supposed to do, she'd trot in, then jump the last ones when she got through enough that she could clear 'em.

I start them out with two and say "turot" and click in a two-time rhythm to enforce the trot. If they jump, I give a tug correction and keep them going 'round until they trot it. They usually only try that the first time of the day when they aren't really with the program. Then I add poles until they can really get a good rhythm up before it's over. I think doing many in a row is what build the muscle memory that will change the way they move. I don't think a few does that.

Fine thanks. Clean house and I've lost 7 lbs! I'm testing myself to see if I can get up and get anything done around here and still be on line. I rode Sun and today. Kind of sore. The trainer told me today , Sarah Lee and I looked like one. :')
