Not riding today. I thought it was gonna rain or I woulda gone. Maybe tomorrow. It's gonna be cold, but at least the sun's gonna shine.

A friend of mine is building a 40x90 metal barn with an 40x40 indoor arena on one end and 4 stalls, a feed room and an air-conditioned/heated tack/laundry/storage area on the other. They looked at Morton buildings too and came to the same conclusion. They decided to hire a local barn builder to do the shell and the stall walls, then finish the rest themselves. I think when it's all said and done it's gonna cost them between $25,000 and $30,000. It would've been less but they've had to fire their contractor and re-do a lot of stuff that he didn't do right. Also a tree fell on it during hurricane Ivan and they had to replace one section of the roof. I think you can come out much cheaper hiring local people, if you can get someone who is reputable and knows how to build a barn. The guy they hired did fine on the shell but didn't know what he was doing when he put up the stalls. They had to tear down and re-do the loft he built over the utility areas because it would've fallen down if anything had been put up there. The windows in the stalls had to be taken out and redone because the frames he built for them were so flimsey it was pitiful, plus he had them swinging out and she wanted them to swing in so you wouldn't have to lean out the window in the rain to get them closed. They've learned alot in the process and are almost finished now. She's really looking forward to it.

Me too, except for the bugs. I think Hair mentioned that they only get mosquitoes up there if you live by a pond, but we get them EVERYWHERE down here, and they'll carry you away. You honestly can't sit outside around here without bug spray on except for this time of year.

I sat outside for a little while last night, watching the cats play. We had a visitor. A big ol' black and white tomcat. He was there when I got home and had made himself right at home. He was very friendly and talkative and seemed to expect certain amenities, like food and water, to be provided, so I obliged him. He hung around and had a bath when he was finished and talked some more. The other cats didn't seem to mind him too much and he didn't bother them. He can hang around as long as he minds his manners, but if he starts whuppin' up on my other cats, his butt's gone.

Well the mosquitoes must be breeding somewhere nearby in standing water, don't they?

You have a point about warm weather and the bugs. Do you have Purple Martins there yet? If not you may want to hang up a few bird houses for them.

There is an old stray B/W tomcat here too. Been trying to catch him for a while. He has lots of descendents on the loose around this neighborhood. And all looking for handouts......

Just the heeler has a coat. The lab would get way to hot. My daughter works at a tack shop, so everyone has to have the lastest fashions. ;)

Do you guys have two PC's? If you do, are they set up on a network or two different connections?

Thank you so much for your replies. When you hire a local builder how do you know if it's a barn builder? I suppose just asking around. Their are a lot of Amish in our area. They built our cabin and did a great job. Where would I get the steel? Do you buy it in a kit?

Gosh, you live in an area with a lot of Amish. There should be no problem finding a good barn builder. Or have you tried them? BTW, who do you board with now?

I met a Mennonite guy that travels locally and builds barns or outbuildings. There may be someone like him in your area. You could ask some members of your Amish community if they know of anyone. Just be sure to look at several of his completed projects first and get an idea of what to expect from his past customers.

Lowes or other building supply companys may offer a do-it-yourself building kit that has what you want.

A shorts day here, right now. That is not where I had her tied when I went the jeep to get the camera. Both want to hug the edges

I've been thinking about your post about the horse that got all 4 feet in the cattle guard. How did you get him out?

LOL I don't think that would be a good combination for me or mine. I would be sleeping in the saddle after a few sips and Sarah Lee would probably want a nap too:')

I didn't get to ride today. Going back this evening or in the morning. They were cleaning stalls and the mare and foal in the round pen, a class in the arena, and a crazy ass horse running loose all over the place. Too crowded for our comfort.

I did do a lot of ground work though. I also practiced Sarah Lee on leading without rope guidance. She started and stayed with me just fine until... I know if I can fast walk she can too but I had trouble getting her to speed up. She got to where she would stop with me but won't back up without "encouragement" She just looks at me. A couple of times she put one foot back but that was about it. She kept moving over to the grass when I would go to groom her right side. Popping her belly not too effective so I would go back around and push with my thumbs on her ribs. After a few times she would get back by herself before my thumbs made contact. We are making progress I guess though:')

The horse flys back. It's just been the small ones. We had to spray the horse down today.

I just have the 2 PC's hooked up with a cross over cable. Problem is, I keep getting a pop up.."network connection is unplugged". Both are working fine, but it gets annoying after awhile. Maybe I should get a router too. I just have the one hooked to the cable modem. Thanks.

You can buy kit barns but I don't know anything about them. The guy that built my barn seems to be the major barn builder in this area. His business is called "Ranch Hand" and he does barns, arenas and fencing.

I would bet an Amish guy could build an awesome barn. Ain't no Amish around here but we have a mess of Jehovah's Witnesses. (no offense, ya'll)
