A trip with the horses where there was stabling available would be really fun.
We're looking forward to camping with ours. Some of the campsites at our state forest have corrals for horses.
me too, but when i showed James the photo again he about choked! :)
I'm like Hair, I see no need to worm for tapes, coz most of the time, tapes come from fleas and horses don't get fleas. The only other way I know that a horse could get tapes is if he happened to eat some shed tapeworm segments, say in the pasture where an animal that had tapes had gone to the bathroom, or had them to fall off it's butt. So I guess theoretically, horses COULD have tapes, but it's not all that likely IMO. I think it's just a way for them to make more money.
I didn't know they were made by the same company, but I knew they were the same chemical component at the same strength. Like you say, Rotation 1 is the same as Zimecterin, but there are cheaper generic ivermectins out there that are just as good. Rotation 2 is the same as Strongid, only MUCH cheaper, so that's why I use it. It IS a conspiracy. They just think people won't take the time to compare.
Hi yall
Howdy Ma'am!
And actually they are correct, most people just buy whatever....usually the cheapest, with no thought about how/why/what it works.
You can be economical in your worming practices, but some times you get more for your money spending more occasionally then if you buy cheap all the time.
I'll check out Rotectin 2. I thought it was more in the line of Anthelicide, Safe guard, then Strongid. That's why I thought it was actually more economical to buy them. Since it's more like strongid, then it is cheaper. Thanks for the tip. (looks like I was guilty of not paying close enough attention:)

No, I've never thought that....
I've read that under dosing is the quickest way to get worms immune to a wormer..??? Since, according to the vets I've talked too:), Anthelicide has already been overused, and worms immune to it (I don't agree with that because of the results I see in my horses), I've always just given each horse a whole tube, 1200 lb horse worth. My horses are not that big, but I know they always lose some, spit out, smear on lips etc.
Becky
Tax free cigarettes maybe?
Asheville/Biltmore is in plans too, that's closer to you. :)
Hey - you guys OK? Just heard of bad storms down there and worried for yourselves and your critters.
Ooooo, you'll LOVE the Biltmore. I've been there a couple of times. Once in the fall and once in December when they have it decorated for Christmas. Both were GORGEOUS. They have several different tours besides the main house. There's one where they take you into the areas where the servants lived and worked and tell you all about their daily lives. The social hierarchy of the place was facinating. Some of the upper level servants even had servants. Then there's another one where you get to see the nuts and bolts of the place, like up on the roof and down in the basement where the power generation equipment was. My husband liked this one coz he's an electrical engineer. You have to pay extra for these tours but to me, they were well worth it. But you can't do them all in just one day. The NTRC also used to have a Competitive Trail Ride every year on the estate. They have miles and miles of carriage roads and trails. I always wanted to compete in this one, but it's about an 8 hour haul for me so I never got up the nerve. I don't know if they even still do it.
It's been nasty and raining buckets here all day, but the worst of the storms went south of us earlier this morning. Thanks for worrying about us though! :o)
Hey, I just saw your post about the wormers. I use daily strongid and then ivermectin every 6 months. So far, no problems. I've only had one horse colic after a worming and it was a horse that was basically given to me (he was pretty useless). Well, as soon as I got him home, I wormed him, he colicked the next day, then dumped a big bot load. It was DISGUSTING. Probably the first time that horse had been wormed in years. Your horse must just be sensitive to that particular wormer. I have a bunch of horse health textbooks, I'll see if I can find anything pertaining to colic after worming that doesn't have anything to do with worm load.
I've been seeing the ads for wormers that included meds for tapes. I called my vet as soon as I saw them and asked if this was something I needed to use. He said in the 35 years he's been a vet, he's never seen a horse with a tapeworm.
Definitely a conspiracy.
It's nice here today. A little nippy but the wind down and the sun shining. All week I just haven't felt like riding and today I wish I could be out there. Go figure. When I was a kid this would definately have been a play hookie day from school. Yall evcr have days when you feel off and don't feel like "horses". ?
How many of yall work full time outside of your home? How do you work in your horses in your schedule? It's been difficult but I've managed so far but soon I won't have the flexability with my schedule that I do now. Any suggestions?
Sorry that it took so long to reply. Don't get on here too often. There's probably been about a thousand posts since you asked the question.
I used to have horses but we moved into town and had to give up. We had a nice place. When I first came here, this was all swamp. Everyone said I was daft to build a place on a swamp, but I built in all the same, just to show them. It sank into the swamp. So I built a second one. That sank into the swamp. So I built a third. That burned down, fell over, then sank into the swamp. But the fourth one stayed up. And that's what I was hoping to give my lad, the strongest place in all of Louisiana.
I am sorry to chuckle at your post! So you have become an expert at building in swampland. A valuable skill in Louisiana I would think!
LOL. Welcome!
