Hmmmm interesting. You and I aren't near each other, either.

Good morning.... We went to bed early... Middle of the night we wake up to mayhem of Gidget barking hysterically... takes a minute to realize it's midnight and the neighbors are all shooting off fireworks! Went outside to check the horses, they were alert but quiet in the barn. The fireworks stopped by about 12:10, everyone settled down again. Stuff like that really messes with Gidget's head. FWIW, the Homer dog was calm about the fireworks, more anxious about Gidget.

Poor Gidget.

When I went out at 9:30 to feed, someone up the road was already blowing fireworks. I was asleep at midnight, and didn't get woke up, maybe they ran out, maybe it just didn't wake me up:)

Raining here this morning.

These neighbors spend a lot on the fourth of July... and New Years too if they can I guess! I don't remember this happening last year.

Morning, all. I also went to bed early. I feel funny celebrating anything right now, with all that's going on in the world.

My neighbors were shooting off fireworks at about 9:00. I never say anything to them about it, even though it's illegal here, but I wish they would cut it out. Makes my horses run, not to mention how brown and dry the grass is right now. It also makes their horses run like crazy but since they have mostly boarded horses, I doubt they care.

Mornin'. We have about a 30% chance of rain here today and tomorrow but it's supposed to storm by Monday. What's the temp been up there? We've been having a low of about 60 and a high of 70, not much of a temp change through the day. It's humid as heck.

I'm with you... It's especially surprising horse people would be lighting them off. I was never ~really~ into fireworks before I had horses... but with horses now, and with Gidget who is just hysterical about them, I really loathe them. Fireworks are sortof illegal here, you have to buy the big ones on indian reservations... but there is very little, if any enforcement.

I haven't seen too many people that set off fireworks around their horses but my neighbors go nuts with it, July 4th and New Years. I'm really hesitant to call the cops on them but I'm gonna wish I had of if one of my horses runs through the fence or they cause a fire.

I'm on a hill and I'm above them so they can clearly see me standing in my barn. Last 4th of July they were setting off tons of firecrackers and I stood in my barn door with my hands on my hips and stared at them. To their credit, they took the hint and quit. Their horses were going berserko and I wonder if the owners of those horses know what the barn owners are doing.

I'd want to know if I were boarding there. They are supposed to be the caretakers.

I've asked my neighbors what their plans were so I could prepare, they always say they won't be doing much, and it always ends up being more than my definition of 'not doing much'! :~D

The first year when I didn't have a barn, I stood out in the paddock with mine, and figured out if I held the pony and she wasn't running, Bay didn't run so much either. For the fourth now, I put them inside and give them quitex. They are really not as bad as the dog. The ones that bother the horses are the whistely ones and the ones that crackle like fire, more than the booms. They ALL bother the dog, even sounds a couple miles away.

It was 70 here yesterday, and last night at 9 it was still in the 60's.

The last forcast I saw was high in the 60's and low's 40. I could live with that all winter:)

The last few years, it seems the fireworks don't bother my horses. We've always had then going off around here alot on the 4th and New Years. Being out here where we are, there is no enforcement of firework laws.

In fact not much of anything is enforced out here:). Yesterday, I did something I've never done. I called the police about a problem. We have a family with 3 boys. I've always said, those boys would be trouble when they hit driving age. And they are. 3 times in the last month I've seen them in their mothers van. And all 3 times they have been driving very ver recklessly. Swerving back and forth down the road. We have lots of curves out here so that makes it even worse. One time with the big door open, and I could see the kids flying around inside. If everytime I've seen them they have been doing that chances are that's the way they are all the time when they're driving.

My son had a wreck this past summer by a differnt kid going around a curve on the wrong side of the road.

REally makes me angry. Yesterday when I was going to town, ANOTHER kid, a girl, went thru a 3 way stop at the end of our road, I'd say she was doing 60. Never slowed down and never looked. Was the icing on the cake, I called a police officer I know, hoping that since he knows me,he may take me seriously and make a call on some parents, or try to patrol a little out here. He hasn't returned my call yet.

The family with the three boys are the ones that bother me the most, I know them. I doubt it will help for the police to call on them tho, but at least there will be a record on their behavior. The mother of these boys have been told by family and friends how bad those boys are, but her response, "I'm tired of people telling me how bad my kids are"

I'm venting, sorry:).

Then at least stop giving them a van that makes them a menace to everyone else!

But that would mean she would have to drive them places:)

I've heard from very reliable sources that these kids have bragged about vandalising empty homes out here. They deliberatly ran down someone's mailbox. I've seen them on 4 wheelers flying down roads, never looking to see what's coming.

Mostly I'd like the parents to be punished. They're the problems. Hell, these boys about burned down their own home several times, and the parents do nothing.

I have a feeling once these boys figure out they can pawn things they steal, we will see a big rise in burglary out here. They're really bad.

Good grief. You did that family a favor by calling the cops. They are a tragedy waiting to happen.

The mother ought to be shot for being so stupid. I guess she's too busy to discipline her children. If she wants to let her kids kill themselves by driving recklessly, fine, but she has no right to decide it's ok for them to kill other people, too.

Was your son ok? No serious injuries, I hope.

~frowns~

It makes you feel out of control doesn't it. I'd put a padlocked gate and fence around your place like I have... I originally put up the gate and fence for the dogs of course, and padlocked it because I feared traffic or even trouble if the store were robbed and the thief ran out the back to escape. I don't have a lot of fear here now, I think casual troublemakers would rather not have to carry loot over a fence.

Have you ever thought about reporting them to Child Protective Services? They need to have that family on record.

Bingo...that's my point. They won't look my calling the police as a favor tho.

No, Charlie was not hurt at all. Just bent his fender in. What makes me mad about that wreck tho is, the father of the girl said he could tell it was her fault by the tracks on the road, it was a dirt road, but the Highway Patrol that worked it said he couldn't tell who was at fault.

Like I said, I don't expect calling the police will do much good, I'm just hoping this policeman I know will believe me. I'm not sure he can do anything....that is if he ever calls back.

Yeah, you really feel out of control. The whole time these boys were growing up, I knew there would be trouble. They all get suspended from school on a regular basis. They are all on ritlan. Their real hoodlums. But with no proof of anything at this point, I don't think even child service can do anything. They're not abused in one sense, just not disciplined at all.
