She's probably fortunate she didn't have another foal off that mare, it doesn't sound like her health was any good to start with. Getting a healthy foal with a young healthy mare is never assured, starting with less than that is asking for heartbreak.
No, we treat the navel and watch to insure a first bowel movement - sometimes an enema is called for as a precaution, and we watch to make sure the foal is nursing well. (the nursing is critical to the foal's health and it also helps the mare expel the placenta - it starts a biological chain of events)
Well, it's nice here so I'm going to go ride awhile see you all later.
Becky
Have fun :)
Oh yeah . I just ran him off my computer. I was letting him look at pictures I have saved while I was working in the closet. I heard him hitting keys and asked him what he was doing and he told me "downloading".
Be nice to this kid, you are harboring the next Bill Gates :)
You can say that again... ;~D
It's an uninspiring day here... Raining out... the mares were found lounging in the lean-to.
Was this Okie's momma? How sad.
I had a blast. Even had Mack come out and take some pictures. Loading them now.
Becky
Yeah I'm pretty sure she was his momma.
Becky
Well she sure made pretty babies. Too bad she got worn out.
Well my opinion was Okie was her prettiest:).
Becky
Waiting for pictures :)
Well of course. I'm just taking your word that his brother a looker, too:') The kids at the stable call him Oak'Man. Now. They all want to ride Oak'Man.
No snow here today, no rain, not much sunshine but hey, any is good. :)
Hair, Pony raised her head but it doesn't look like you disturbed them too much:')
~Applause~
Hope you all don't think I'm vain, but Mack took some good pictures, and I'm excited from the great ride.
First, the horses really watching as I walked out there with the halter. I imagine they're thinking, "OK, which of us is it going to be:)"
The one chosen. He is soooo dirty:
I was doing one of the excerises from that program, walk, trotting, lopeing. I just told Mack to take what he wanted. Mounting
The exercise was makeing them go in straight lines with nice turns. I didn't realize till today that I have been letting them "oval" at the end of the arena instead of straight across. In this picture you can tell I'm having to hold him over to keep from "drifting" into the turn.
I thought this was a good loping picture:)
And finally, a good shot of him doing a roll back.
One more:) (maybe):
Becky
