Dream Theater = Sound/styles of Kansas + Rush + Metallica + !!!
Very, very good hard rock. Not vulgar, violent or sloppy.

Dream Theater is huge (sells out in most venues) in the progressive metal ranks.....worldwide.
To: TChris
(best Butthead voice) Uh-huh-huh-uh-huh...prog rock!

You and I know they're huge, but I wondered how many FReepers might be (closet) headbangers?

John Petrucci is a guitar god!!! We have almost all their CD's. Probably one of the most musically skilled bands of all time. My husband & son go see them every time they are in town.

IMO, every member of the band is among the top 5 - 10 in the world on their particular instrument...with the possible exception of James LaBrie. He's pretty good, but with the rest of the band at a stratospheric level, sometimes I wish for better vocals. Geoff Tate (Queensryche) did the vocals for one D.T. song at the concert. That was absolutely incredible! Swap Geoff in for James and D.T. would be absolutely perfect.

I am completely mesmerized by Alison Krauss. I don't have the slightest interest in Slipknot, and haven't heard much Pantera. I revere great musical talent and performance in nearly any genre.

Have you ever heard Jason Becker? Great young guitarist who became afflicted with Lou Gherig's disease. Sad.

Good point about LaBrie. I love watching John Myung play that seven string bass.

I hate to admit it, but I believe he had a short stint with David Lee Roth. It was his solo work that I thought was great. He also had an album with the guy from Megadeth, Marty Friedman, that was quite good.

Not a big fan of Dream Theater, they`re okay. Used to be big Queensryche fan until Geoff Tate(vocalist) fell off the left wing and decided to re-do "Operation Mindcrime" with a pervasive G.W. theme.

"You and I know they're huge, but I wondered how many FReepers might be (closet) headbangers?" Not a "headbanger" back in the day, headbangers were considered "posers". I formed my musical tastes in the middle/late '80s. Much more into speed metal and "viking" metal. (Manowar, Leige Lord, Candlemass)

That`s a blast from the past. I liked them enough, although I couldn`t tell you any of their songs unless I thought very hard about it. I was separated from much of my collection years ago.
