Most every site validates for IE and Netscape (which is what Firefox is based on).

Actually, Netscape is built on Mozilla.

Thanks, another reason I like FF so much...you can customize it to your liking, rather than settle for IE's "one size fits all" design.

Hi.

I. Don't. Care.

See? That's all inter-necine. All I care about is seeing the pages. Okay? IE sees the features, Mozilla doesn't.

So, one can haughtily sniff all one wants about coding, as if it were a Moral Issue (it isn't). The point is, this page has features, Avant Browser sees them and works great otherwise, Ff doesn't and works so-so otherwise -- so which should I choose?

So far, Avant.

Oh, I know! I've been tabbing with Avant for years, and I STILL hit alt-tab ALL THE TIME! (Control-tab works, however; just can't get the habit, and it doesn't offer the graphical window-choice.)

I recommend Pest Patrol for your AdWare problems. I bought Zone Alarm Pro and Pest Patrol as a package and have been CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN ever since. It's a worthwhile purchase. Of course, everyone has an opinion.

I have used Opera for years. Before that I used Netscape (until AOL ruined it). I still have IE to access certain pages - mostly Java and Secure pages that Opera does not display correctly. Is FireFox that much better?

No, it isn't. I am an Opera devotee and their newest versions work much better with java. There are still some websites that don't work properly, but I think that has more to do with their code than java.

First off, even though Opera is free (there is a pay version too), Opera's free version has an Advertisement taking, what seems like, 1/4 of your screen. I hated that.

It's only been Firefox for me for close to 2 years.
Just remember when you install it, to hit the Extensions site right away, and add some of that awesome stuff.

Someone should post the most recommended extensions to download.

I downloaded Firefox a couple weeks ago and the only thing I am disappointed in so far is that while it DID ask if I wanted to import my IE bookmarks, it did NOT ask about Firebird, which I found strange since they're both Mozilla browsers. Since I've been using Firebird for almost a year, I would much prefer to import the bookmarks from there rather than my much older ones from IE.

I didn't import any yet, and I'm sure there's a relatively easy way to bring them over from Firebird...any help?

K. I stand corrected (well, sort of). Thanks for the clarification.

Glad to help. I'm becoming a big fan of open source for many things, but for some things I have to rely on microsoft (mathcad does not offer a linux version, and although star office is okay, I do not think that any of the open source database solutions can compete with Access, Alpha 5, or Approach.

...Well, at lesast not now.

That, together with this article, would be awesome.
Great suggestion.

"Firefox also doesn't get infected by anything close to what everyone refers to as 'spyware'. Perform an experiment for me if you don't mind. Download a tool such as Spy Sweeper and clean your system with it. Run IE as you normally would for one week and sweep your system again. Count the traces of spyware it finds and remove them. Then run Firefox as you normally would for one week (don't use IE at all during this week) and run Spy Sweeper again. What you will see is ZERO traces of spyware. Try it and prove me wrong." Well, although I use and like Firefox, the above is NOT true. I "still" get "adware" sticking stuff on my computer clandestinely. Certainly, the problem is not nearly as bad as it was with Internet Explorer, but the incident rate is definitely non-zero. I just got through running Spybot and Ad-aware, and I was surprised to find half a dozen or so pieces of adware.

I just ran into the same problem. When I told my tech guys about it, they informed me that internet explorer is always running in the background and always has the potential of being exploited. Mozilla definitely decreases the hijacking problem, but it's still there.

Yep. I have only those extensions loaded that I need and FF flys. Very slick. Once you get used to the tab paradigm, you will not surf without it.

And, FF supports mouse Gestures. IE does not.

Still using that 14" CRT I see. I have NEVER, in all my time using Opera, even noticed the advertisements.
