Actually, one minister was reportedly told that God deliberately used the noise etc. about Y2K to get people into the mode and idea of preparing for coming traumas.
It may have been David Wilkerson. I think Wilkerson also said ahead of time that Y2K was not going to be a big disaster.

Well, in the spirit we know there's nothing to fear but in the flesh, wow! I have fear not particularly for myself but for my unsaved loved ones, my children and grandchildren. I admit to being a bit fearful even though I am a Christian and love Jesus and wait for His coming.

I think it's just a language error.
A lot of people get very excited or nervous or some such when hearing or receiving something intense from The Lord and then garble the language involved in getting it down. Then they get nervous about correcting it because they received the message from The Lord.
Sometimes, it's because God chooses to use the foolish things and weak people etc. to convey His messages. Some people are not well educated in such details and get them garbled up.

I think such things are also often used of God to cloud the truth from the pharisees and other unbelievers as Jesus spoke of in His dusty pathed days.
