"...but tactically it was necessary..."

I don't quite understand this statement. However, I happen to be one of the hurricane damaged Floridians that you mention, and although I agree W has shown his passionate support for Florida, He still came off real bad last night. The sad reality is that W did himself no favors last night. The undecided voters I am sure were not impressed by what they saw, nor was I.

Bush knows that Florida remains in play. As a result of all of the 2000 and 2002 elections myths and facts, he HAS to be VERY visible in the state during this time of crisis (and I pray that you and your family didn't suffer too badly from the hurricanes).

To that end, if he DOESN'T come and tour the state, there are too many who are waiting for an opportunity to pounce and declare that he "doesn't care about the suffering of ordinary Floridians". Just ask the editors of the Miami-Dade, Palm Beach, West Palm Beach, Ft, Lauderdale, Orlando, Tampa and St. Pete papers.

While it would have been prudent and well-advised for him to rest yesterday and prepare for the debate (like Kerry's manicure), tactically, he needed to be visible to Floridians to maintain whatever lead he may currently hold in the state. He needed to display his caring and compassion and didn't have the luxury of ignoring it all a' la' Mssr. le Kerry.

His pointed finger really bothered me.

He was showing off his manicure.
