"Heeeere's Johnny!" is a scary greeting from Jack Nicholson, not a warm welcome from Ed McMahon.
I'm old enough to know that the Shining was made in 1980.

Born in 65. I remember the stores used to close on Sundays when I was little. By the time I was in the teens they started staying open all through the weekend. There weren't any shopping malls until the 80's . Winter break was called Christmas vacation. People said "merry Christmas" not "happy holiday". Spring break was called Easter vacation-these terms would even be printed on the school calender without fear of reprisal from the ACLU. You could display a nativity scene without fear of the PC Gestapo coming to get you. "Sunday dinner" was a special meal for the family get-toghether.
Now can some one please bring me my prune juice and fetch me my cane?

Baseball games have always been played at night, in lighted ball parks. Specifically, the world series was always played at night.

After reading thru some replies I feel compelled to add:
I interviewed for a job at the NYC Playboy Club (didn't get it!)
Some other bygones & my memories:
Corporal punishment in school
B&W TV, no remote
No cable TV
No computer, no internet
You could ride your bike into town and not worry
A (was it 8 or 10 oz.?) GLASS bottle of Coke from the machine was 10 cents.
When I was in JHS cigarettes were 35 cents a pack from a machine.
People smoked on TV talk shows.
Nobody got offended if you flew the American flag.
When I started elementary school, you couldn't wear denim or shorts to school. (rule changed when I was 5th or 6th grade I think).
