She's gonna send the bit, I think. ecurbh's saddle should fit her just fine. Need a pad, since the one he has is custom to Bay. And Bay's big ole cinch will ~not~ work!

But she is going to give me her blankets. Has a good outdoor WeatherBeta blanket like the ones I have, and a warm underliner for super cold. That's good to ~not~ have to buy.

When I first got Rusty, he tended to throw his head up alot, so I used it with a running martingale. He keeps his nose down now. I just usea tie down when running barrels.

Congratulations! You are knowledgable enough, to find a great horse, for your husband. She seems to fit the bill alright. The mare seemed to be relaxed, even with different people on her.

All of you getting new horses, make me want to go out, and find my "dream" one. Now where is that black and white leopard Appaloosa gelding, that does the Indian shuffle?

Some people think Ann Coulter is pretty ;~D Me... I like a little meat on them. :~D

LOL......thanks for the laugh! She does make you want to bring her home for dinner. I do enjoy listening to her, but like Laura Ingram better. We will probably both get flamed, by the Ann lovers. :)

It's hinged on both sides of the port, so it's a two handed bit also. It helps to get their nose down, and get them a bit more collected. Alot of people think it looks hard, but it really isn't. I just always keep in mind what I have in their mouth and use it accordingly. I've had lots of people more knowledgeable then me say it is a good bit. And as I've said I like some curb on trail to have for emergency sakes. My horses are pretty good at stopping on voice command, but in the event of a spook it's helps get them under control. Trash uses a dog bone snaffle, no curb, and he about got away from me the other day when we came across a booger. You really have to know how to use a snaffle to get quick response, I'm not that efficient with one, I tend to just pull straight back in emergencies, forget to seesaw it.

That's a good bit! Not as severe as a straight curb, and some leverage.

The curb they have her in is a port that high with a roller in it, and straight long shanks.

Yeah, I noticed that bit. I don't like those at all. Absolutely NO flex. And as I've said before, I don't think neck reining is all it's cracked up to be. You get a horse spooking, you'll forget the neck reining and have to get ahold of them. Neck reining is fine in an arena showing, but it's not best for out, IMO. Not that I don't just hold the reins with one hand sometimes, just going straight down a trail, but for turning and weaving at a trot or lope I think you get quicker sharper response with direct reining and leg pressure.

Horses DON'T need to have something to play with when they're working. It just makes me crazy when people put stuff like that on and say, it keeps her busy. They need to be busy keeping their minds on what they're doing.

Speaking of Ann C., I picked up 20 (twenty) dozen Krispy Creams this morning :') Joshua's school having an OctFest fund raiser and my boss bought a bunch for staff.

Sometimes bits with keys or rollers will make a horse accept his bit more. Makes it less of challange to get it in his mouth. It's worked for the babies that I've ridden, and the younger horses. Older horses don't need it.

I've only bitted a few young ones, and never run into trouble as long as I stay patient:). I would think using one on a youngster might just get something started that you would then have to get them unuse too??? Kind of like putting a baby to bed with a bottle.

Yep, I went from neck reining to direct reining and had to pull to the left to get SL straightened last week. I've got a lesson Sun afternoon. I really want to go back over what I did with her. Maybe it had something to do with the bit. Also I was squeezing with my legs to get her moving. I really want to rule out if she was spooked or just throwing a fit. Eddie said she continued to buck a few more times after I was off.

I haven't had much trouble transitioning youngsters from a keyed bit to a keyless bit. But maybe I've just been lucky. :-)
