Well hopefully whatever it was about his mouth that was giving him problems will have disappeared like the bump did...fingers crossed.
Becky
Fingers crossed indeed.... let me know how he goes. I gotta go.... just a few more days of this :~\
Thanks:)
Becky
You take a feed sack(preferable cloth, or any kind of soft material). Rub it all over the horse, starting in the front. All the while talking softly, to reassure her, that it is not going to kill her. Work your way back. Then when she gets used to it, you can slap a little harder. You don't want to hurt or scare her at all.
I live in Champion. My husband, and I used to do a lot of trail riding. We had the big rig (camper, dually), and went all over. Situations in life change, and interests too. I do a lot of trap shooting now, and don't really have a lot of time for my own horse. If I found the right one, I would get back into it. My daugher shows, and the granddaugher does leadline.
Well, got through another hurricane. No power or water. Haven't showered since Saturday morning. ;) Looking forward to getting back to Carolina next week and riding.
You had to evacuate? What did you do with your horses? Glad to hear you made it ok. :)
Glad you made it thtu safely:)
Becky
Done with Trash for the day.
Having some more coffee, last nights little bruhaha just sent all my ambition to do this barrel thing done the drain:(. I really need to do this, but it's getting harder and harder to stay focused. I could very easily just sit here in this chair all day and feel sorry for myself:) But I at least need to go see how the big dummy is. He looks fine just looking at him.

My home and horses are up in the western part of South Carolina. I'm just working down here in the hanging chad capital of the US. I keep up with the horse world wherever I go and I noticed a lot of horse trailers on the road during the evacuation. However, it's been my experience that, if you have an area large enough, it's better to just turn em out and let em fend for themselves. They are more prone to panic and injury in a stall than out where they can move around.
That's a concern with my horses during a storm. They would be turned out but it's a working ranch and there is so much stuff around that I worry more about injury from objects flying than anything else.
I know that feeling lol. Hopefully he's ok. I would think you would be seeing signs by now.
Yall feeling any of these quakes?
I think the biggest thing about sacking out is that you don't stop doing whatever you're doing until they switch out of panic mode, realize that what you're doing isn't hurting them and relax and accept it. Then you stop. If you stop when they're freaking out, then you're rewarding them for freaking out.
Yeah, he is fine. Just got in from riding him. Even did a run in our arena.
My problem is me:). I'm not worried about what he will do, other then if he was hurting. I just don't like people watching:)
But Mack took some pictures, I'll post them later.

LOL, that reminds of the time I wanted to get Rusty use to flapping bags. The horse I had before him was terrified of plastic flapping things. I had trash bags hung all over the place, but she would never get over it.
So one day with Rusty, who I was bound and determined to get him use to it I decided to tie them to the saddle. I first let him sniff it and ran it over him, then I tied it to the saddle and let it go. Wellllll....it was a very windy day, and the darn thing filled up with air like a balloon, and it was a big bad. I knew the minute I stepped away, that wasn't the best thing to do:), but he was running around the tree he was tied to and I couldn't get close to stop it or him. So I went in the house. Came back about 10 minutes later and he was standing there quietly with this huge bag blowing. It probably wasn't the best way to go about doing it, but it worked.

The mountain rumbling quakes? - No, haven't felt them and don't expect to, they are just small quakes under the mountain. I think ecurbh and I are going to go check out the mountain next week and see what's up!
Looking forward to your ride pictures. Glad you made yourself go, someone has to entertain us with action pics! Cindy's had the best action all week and she didn't even get pictures of it!
I am sitting here feeling pudgy and lazy and needing some exercise. Might go mow this afternoon.
Well, just finished lunch/dinner. I guess we'll be leaving here around 5 to go to the race. I think I'll throw a few beers into the trailer to drink when I get there. Liquid courage:)

Heh... Bay suspects I will kill him with a plastic bag one day.... I think he'd have a heart attack if I tied one to him ;~D
Speaking of sacking out, Cindy.... there are different philosophies, but it is a method for desensitizing horses to something that frightens them, either through slow quiet patient calming with the thing, or through just confronting them with the thing, not letting them escape, and showing them that their fears amounted to nothing... like Backy tying the bag on Rusty. The trainer we took this pony to climbed on her the first day and got tossed, so she tied a sack full of cans on her in the round pen and let her buck it out until she wore out. Her idea was that it taught her bucking doesn't work, stopping is the only thing that would quiet those cans.... Well, it at least wore her down. She did make progress from there on out. ;~D
