A NATURAL walking horse gait IS smooth. This AIN'T natural! Look at those pads and chains. That's about as far from natural as it gets.

Glad I gave you a chuckle, but you'd really get one if you went to some of the shows. I've got a pretty good example of the classic riding form that most of the men in the show ring have. It'll have you really rolling. Give me a minute to upload it...

Here it is...

I don't know where this posture comes from, but they stick their chins out and hunch over and stick both feet straight out like they're riding a broomstick. It just cracks me up and there are worse examples than this. This was just the best I could find on short notice.

Why this is not only tolerated but able to win is beyond me. Obviously, these people of lost what very small amount of brains they had.

I know what "big" means, I was wondering about the "lick".

I scrolled through the posts and got the answer I was looking for.

I honestly had no clue that gaiting was called "hitting a lick." Interesting. Now the "big lick" makes perfect sense.

Where are you? You've probably told me before but I don't remember.

If a horse could be trained to "lick" like this I would think it was awesome. But to mess with their feet and cause pain.... I read someone posted that some whip horses for flinching so you can't tell they are sore. Unacceptable to me.

He looks like a Scrooge from hell. A vulture, looking to peck someone's eyes out. (And if you know this person, I apologize deeply) That's just the first thought that jumped into my head. I mean no ill will. My trainer would kill me if I rounded my back like that and stuck my chin out. Pretty horse, but far too unnatural of a gait. I wonder how long it takes horse that go like that to break down.

Scrooge from Hell, now that's an apt description if I ever heard one. That's EXACTLY what he looks like in all that black. LOL!

As for how long it might take a horse like that to break down, probably not long if ridden consistantly like that, but his show career was probably mercifully short. He's the 2001 World Grand Champion TWH and he's worth several million dollars so he's probably kickin' back in some heated stall right now in a barn that looks better than my house and thinkin' 'bout the LADIES.

I wish I was there right now let me tell you. I can't take all the democrats here. It's driving me insane. Really.
I ride as late into winter as I can. Depends on if the ground is too frozen or icy, or if it's just too darn cold to ride.

Thought you might like to see what they look like when man is not torturing them.

Pretty much. I'm sure they needed training in collection, etc. but their natural gaits are about like that.

Well if they can be trained to do this, then why the torture chamber?
