The shanks circular. There is a chin strap and I believe it's chain. What are you thinking?
Even if you end up having to get rid of her, there is no reason at all she should have to be given away. She still has value, she just needs an experienced rider that will give her some training. And really, it is better to sell her to a knowledgeable person than it is to give her to someone who just sees a free deal. I wouldn't trust a free horse, but I would definately understand a horse that needed an experienced rider for some reason or another. And if you really like her, you also have the option of hiring someone for 30-90 days of training and an evaluation at the end. You could end up with her being good for you, or if not, then at least she will be improved in her marketability to sell.
Good afternoon! I am home and trying to assess my options for the afternoon!
Yeah I would want to try to re-coop some of my loses but I meant I would give her away (as in taking a loss) only to a good home. I wouldn't pay what I did for her if I was told she only does good on trails and bucks. I wouldn't have bought her and the stable owner definately wouldn't have sold her to me but I wouldn't want to see her go to a "not a horse I couldn't beat to break" yahoo who might abuse, abandon or slaugher her. If she isn't broke, well IMO it isn't her fault but her previous owners . Can you realisticlly train this old a horse though?
Of course. You can train a horse of any age.
You don't have to treat her like damaged goods, just someone else's training project. How much did you pay for her? Unless you are in upper brackets, I wouldn't say her price necessarily went down either. Unless you find something really loopy about her, I would say, "she's herd bound and barn sour and she needs someone who can work with her on that. I can't, I am just learing to ride."
If you ride her again, I'd put more bit in her mouth, so you have a better chance of getting her stopped if she would buck again.
There is a real good bit that I use alot that is called a correction bit. You would probably get alot of negative imput for using it, but it is really not that bad. It is hinged on either side of a port, has short shanks and requires a curb chain.
Here's one:
The head stall and curb chain hook to the top rings, and your reins at the bottom. That would be the first thing I would do if I was going to get back on her. At least for awhile I wouldn't worry about hurting her, which it won't really, but it will get her attention a lot quicker then an O ring. Just trying to help give you some things to try if you do try her again.

Being from a dude string she is probably pretty tough mouthed, because alot of non-riders have been on her and they tend to hang on the horses mouth. She probably doesn't even feel the O ring.

She did tell me she kept speeding up and barn sour. She's not in heat so I don't know why the mood change the last 3 days. We are cutting her feed down and she wants the worker to ride her 10 more times this week and take her on trails. That's good but there is no way I would take this horse on a trail and get thrown against who knows what right now.
Be involved and watch the ten rides... You never know how you'll feel when you see him work her. See if she acts up at all. It's good if she does.... it will give him a chance to correct it. And if you still decide to sell her, have him show her for you to buyers.
Did you notice what kind of bit she used?
Becky
The Stable owner told me she didn't see anything major, wrong with the horse at this time and told me she didn't feel she needed training and since we ride together just don't seperate her from Okie!
She wants me to continue to ride her (under supervision). Sigh. My husband does too. He wanted me to get back on last night. He said I let her get away with it. He offered to get on her but what would that have accomplished?
Anyway he wants me to practice with her and make it work. His rationale is that I'm not going to find a perfect horse and the next might be worse than Sarah Lee. I want to sell her but a trial basis with a trainer might be a compromise. He reluctantly offered to take her and give me Okie back but I did give the horse to him (with 49% owner and riding rights of course:') and they do so well together. He loves that horse:') I couldn't do that.
If I keep her around awhile I'm going to hire an outside trainer probably. Want a job in STX? lol
I'd be there in a second if STX wasn't so far south:)

Well I'll get out of here for awhile and stop hogging the thread. Time to go learn how to do my civic duty:')
Very classy little mare there! Good buy!
Well that was very interesting on voting. Do you know anyone can vote in Texas? It may not get approved but you can vote:')
Well, bad luck just seems to be following us.
Rusty freaked in the trailer when I got to the arena tonight. I didn't get him untied fast enough and he slung himself about and banged his head up. He has a goose egg on his head. I went ahead and saddled him to see how he would do, but I think he was sore, so I didn't do much more then a few circles. I doubt he will go to the barrel race tomorrow. I am going to see how he is tomorrow before completley ruling it out. I gave him some bute, and will again in the morning. But I wanted the practice more then he needed it. Probably be next week before I take him to the race now.
I'm starting to get a bit discouraged here. Seems about the time I'm ready something happens.

Oh, look:)
