Oh Becky - I am so sorry about the loss of your vet.... They really are more than "just a vet" as they see us through our various animal "emergencies"

your stories about his family show his heart was in the right place there as well.... Praying for comfort for his wife and all of his loved ones.....Cindy

Wow.... scary story, would be hilarious to see on film, once we knew that it would play out without injury.

My mustang liked to roll in water, always had to keep him moving. No stopping!

It's just going to be a graveside funereal. He didn't want anything big...

I wonder if they know how often they comfort us when they aren't there..

You are so right - you've inspired me to write a short card of appreciation today to our vet.... I usually drop by some little goodies at Christmas but rarely express my appreciation as I should.....

No, you really don't find people like that in the world anymore. That's why they leave such a lasting mark. :-) He sounded like he was a really wonderful person.

I didn't think about it, I just said "Oh boy!" and got off. As I got off, I pushed myself away from him. A psuedo emergency dismount if you will.

He was.

I have a feeling even tho he didn't want a big todo at his funereal, I bet there is going to be a hugh crowd there.

Reminds me of that accident scene in The Horse Whisperer, having a blast one second, disaster the second.

I was so haunted by that scene, I couldn't watch it when I watched the film a second time. I fast-forwarded.

Funny, you were talking about not rushing. My vet is like that but he's expensive and you can count on "tests". I went cheaper with another who acted like he was standing in fire ants. (go,go,go!) I've gone back to mine. He's special:')

I was looking at your barn pictures again this morning. Are the horses going to have free access, or are you going to lock them in? Just curious.

They always have access to the lean-to, but they won't have free access to the stalls, if they're in, they'll be closed in, if they're out, they'll be locked out. Once the center dividers are up and they are all indivual stalls, they won't have an escape and someone would wind up cornered in the wrong stall.

Since Bay is too tidy to pee inside, my thinking is that most of the time, I'll close in the other too and let him come and go. He's so herd bound he'll likely stay inside with them, but he can slip out to pee and not wake me up pounding to go out at 4:30 am.

I just love the horse movies where I see riders go off or down and they just jump up and dust off their clothes and hop back on and continue on their way.

It's easy when you have people paid to take your falls ;~D

Yeah but I would think even the stunt men would have a groan and a stiff walk back to the horse:')

They left the stunt man groaning off camera.... the guy who dusts himself off prolly just came out of the makeup trailer and sat down ;~D

LOL. Now that would be nice. :-)
When I get dumped, depending on how hard, I'm not afraid to lay there for a minute to make sure I'm still intact. Get cozy with the ground and such. There was one time that I got thrown like a discus. If someone had been fliming it, I'm sure I would have won the money on a "Funny video" show. Luckily the ground was soft.

When I was a teenager, I got tossed nearly every day at first training my mustang. Of course, youth changes everything, and kids don't hurt for a week when they fall off. And also, I was bareback, it meant I prolly fell off more often, but people riding bareback don't fall as hard as people in saddles. You slip off early and gentler. The saddle only means you stay on further into the crisis till it's worse and you get thrown upward and more violently.

It's like my dad said about 4x4's when I got one. 4x4s don't keep you from getting stuck in the woods, they get you stuck farther OUT in the woods. ;~D

Yeah, that day I decided to try flying I remember feeling the grass under my hands and thinking how comforting a feeling it was and telling myself ok, it's over. I just felt like resting there awhile . After a few seconds (I guess) I figured I better check out the damage but there wasn't an urgency.

Now when Sarah Lee dumped me it was more of a controlled fall. I had time to break and see where I was going and jumped up and backed off before groaning and dusting. I wanted to get away from her .

In my case, going off, the saddle does more bruising than the ground.

Oh, and we don't have any soft ground around here. Even the mud hard:')
