Good morning, everyone! I hit the polls at 7:30 this morning so now I get to not sleep for a couple days while the returns come in. I hope you're all having a great day!

Today's poem, I think, is about patience, which Lord knows I need today!

Old Poets
Joyce Kilmer

If I should live in a forest
And sleep underneath a tree,
No grove of impudent saplings
Would make a home for me.

I'd go where the old oaks gather,
Serene and good and strong,
And they would not sigh and tremble
And vex me with a song.

The pleasantest sort of poet
Is the poet who's old and wise,
With an old white beard and wrinkles
About his kind old eyes.

For these young flippertigibbets
A-rhyming their hours away
They won't be still like honest men
And listen to what you say.

The young poet screams forever
About his sex and his soul;
But the old man listens, and smokes his pipe,
And polishes its bowl.

There should be a club for poets
Who have come to seventy year.
They should sit in a great hall drinking
Red wine and golden beer.

They would shuffle in of an evening,
Each one to his cushioned seat,
And there would be mellow talking
And silence rich and sweet.

There is no peace to be taken
With poets who are young,
For they worry about the wars to be fought
And the songs that must be sung.

But the old man knows that he's in his chair
And that God's on His throne in the sky.
So he sits by the fire in comfort
And he lets the world spin by.

Hiya Dave!

Sorry I am so late in getting back to you. I have been waiting for a ride to go vote. Well, finally came and I got that civic duty done.

How are you??

I can see your ping but can't get to it on the thread. I really wish FR would get this cleared up.

Thanks for the poetry and music Sam.

The Election

This poem is about society today and how people can be tricked into believing anything. It's about how so many people make decisions without thinking them through first

They say not to believe anything you hear
and only half of what you see
but how long can we ride the rods?

They try to alter our thoughts and notions
and it doesn't take much effort
because our shells have been eroded.

Perhaps the adaptation process went awry
and we are not progressing, but regressing
with each passing moment.

For there are more problems than time in which to solve them
and Murphy's always in the vicinity
but don't abandon the aspirations.

Rome wasn't built in a day
but could be destroyed in a second
which shouldn't worry you, but does.

We've developed insane beliefs,
lost all respect,
and found no comfort.

We should stop the cursory glances;
for once, take a good, long look
and maybe we will understand.

I like that. I wrote this a couple of hours ago.

Loser Speaks Blues

The Botox didn't help enough.
George Bush was made of stronger stuff.
I never really took the lead.
George Bush is who the people need.
Windsurfing didn't help a bit.
George Bush has always been a hit.
I flipped and flopped to no avail.
George Bush should throw my butt in jail.
I leave you now to fade away.
George Bush has clearly won today.

Good morning, Lair! Here's a victory poem this morning .. hope you are all having a great day!

The Republic
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Thou, too, sail on, O Ship of State!
Sail on, O Union, strong and great!
Humanity with all its fears,
With all the hopes of future years,
Is hanging breathless on the fate!
We know what Master laid the keel,
What Workmen wrought thy ribs of steel,
Who made each mast, and sail, and rope,
What anvils rang, what hammers beat,
In what forge and what a heat
Were shaped the anchors of thy hope!
Fear not each sudden sound and shock,
'Tis of the wave and not the rock;
'Tis but the flapping of the sail,
And not a rent made by the gale!
In spite of rock and tempest's roar,
In spite of false lights on the shore,
Sail on, nor fear to breast the sea!
Our hearts, our hopes, are all with thee,
Our hearts, our hopes, our prayers, our tears,
Our faith triumphant o'er our fears,
Are all with thee, - are all with thee!

I'm off to a great start. Noting that both Katie and Matt are wearing black on NBC this morning. And loving it!

It's been behaving that way for a couple weeks now, off and on. Really frustrating. Watch for it when you post the new thread. When we post sometimes it looks like it didn't take. Grrr.
