"Bob, don't forget the fighting women and their babies, too."

Hi, PAL,

Oh, I know all about the fighting women, from Boadicia to Joan of Arc. They are as remarkable as they are rare, just as it should be.

I am not being sexist here, so much as being a pragmatist. I was in the Army, I went through brainwashing training. And while being indoctrinated, I was aware of the reasons for it!

I did not resist the training, because I agreed with it. We are talking psychology here, not physical conditioning or basic strength. Note the difference in reaction to the plight of Jessica Lynch versus any of the male captives. Women shouldn't be in combat situations, if at all avoidable. The Army that is fighting for the gals back home is going to be more effective.

The principal thing that you learn in military basic training is the conditioning of putting the unit first. The survival of your comrades is more important than your own personal survival. Man the animal is not capable of doing this with a woman fighting next to him. His attention and focus will be on her, and it could cost both their lives.

I thought today's Graphic and poem were a fun way to start today's thread.

You did a very good job, Billie. The image matches the poem, and its mood, very well.

I find myself identifying with the guy in the picture. He's even got my jaunty tilted cap!

Now this is a coincidence. My mother had a cat named KC and we had a Chihuahua named Boo. I've never known anyone else who named their pet "Boo". LOL.

That IS a coincidence! WOW!

I haven't been around any of that stuff very much. Years ago I had a horrible case of poison oak. A few years later, we went back to that area of the foothills; I didn't even do more than open the car door and I had another outbreak of poison oak.

YEEKS!
A friend of mine, named Jen, moved out to Colorado a few years back.
Last I knew and SAW, all she had to do was be within a dozen feet of poison ivy, and she'd start itching and breaking out with the blisters.
She had no idea the stuff was nearby, and she was scratching the furies out of her arm, which was reddening and swelling visibly with the little tiny ivy blisters, while saying, "I dunno what's going on!"
I picked her up and carted her off further away from the stuff after I pointed to it.
After a few shocked seconds she goes, "Thanks!"
She didn't expect me to physically remove her from the stuff's presence.

The stuff can be very contagious. It seems that after the first exposure, the reaction intensifies.
