Now that I'm over my mad:), and I'm thinking clear nothing is really making sense about what went wrong.

SURELY, that vet did not let that lady leave believeing the horse had foundered....there has to be more to this.

Well, I've got to get out there and get Trash rode before the farrier gets here.

Cindy, I hope the wedding goes good, and have a good ride:)

Well I guess it's only human nature to not want to get drawn into something like this. He may have just been asked a bunch of "could this"? and said "maybe". It wouldn't surprise me at all if he refuses to do any more "pre buy consultations" :'). If he saw an obvious problem I would have thought he would have at least recommended Harley be looked at by your vet.

But wouldn't you think that to protect his reputation he would call the guy and see if he couldn't straighten it out???

I've been thinking too, and actually I don't think there is really anything at all I could do about it. Hair mentioned another potential buyer maybe coming to look at him from that barn. What's to keep them from trying to find out why the first people didn't buy him, and them telling them whatever..???

That's one reason I hope my farrier will give them a call. Maybe between my farrier, who is also their farrier, and the trainer at the barn, people they trust, they can get these people to at least shut up about founder.

Well, maybe he just hopes this will die down and go away. If they are like doctors, the only one he will probably "off the record" tell what happened is to your "vet". More than likely it will all just come down to a "misunderstanding" IMO

If others from that barn come to look, they would have been sent there on the basis of the trainer's opinion. If they talk to the other people, they might likely decide, if they don't already know from their own experience, that thse people are nutty. ;~D

But Yes.... It is not helpful that this 'story' about founder would get around. It hurts Harley's reputation, but it also paints you as someone who might try to sell a horse and cover up a previous founder.

I think there has to be some responsibility for you to hear what the vet said.

Ahem, Who or what is an English or Western saddle for that matter? How about a real saddle, a battlefield proven design at that. No "Girlymen" saddles here,BorderStates Leatherworks

hehe, Cav. Well, I guess that's proof you're not one of them liberal girlie men, eh? When we (us?) freepers DO have to march on something (John Kerry's botanical gardens on Beacon Hill? Dan Rather's fax machine at Rockefeller Center, The Kinko's in Abilene Texas) will you lead the charge??

Us English saddle hunt seat riders will just jump over the deritas and scare the bejesus out of those namby pamby CBS camera men and editing room engineers. The Western saddle riders among us can round up the producers. ;)

OK, I think I have come up with a course of action:), am I beating a dead horse. My only concern and why I am going to try this is because of other potential buyers.

I'm thinking about getting my farrier, since he is going to be here today anyway, who is also their farrier, to write something to the effect that the horse has never foundered and has good feet that would support jumping and take it over there to the trainer. (of course I would just happen to show up this evening when the kid is taking her lesson:).

But that way if there is a rumor going around the barn about him the trainer has something to back up her belief that the horse is fine. IMO, about a horses feet, I'd be more apt to trust a knowledgeable farrier then a vet. Of course my farrier may not want to get into this mess either, since he is their farrier also, but I know he doesn't like this particular vet, and has also stated alot that there is alot of dissension between vets and farriers. Of course he also thinks farriers are more knowledgeable about horses feet then vets:)

What you think? Am I just stirring the pot? Should I just let it go?

Becky

Well if they have any sense, they'll find out for themselves. If I was looking at a horse I wouldn't go on a "Maybe" from a vet that I don't know.

Well the farrier signed a paper that said this horse had good feet, no sign of founder and nothing in the make up of his feet should cause problems from jumping.

I don't know yet about the farrier. I'd find out if he'd be willing if necessary. I think first I would be trying to find out in a very detailed way what was actually said - Talk to everyone involved (again) and find out what the heck was said. I would want to have those people OK the vet to talk to you, if he feels bound by some client conflict. Premise, you don't care about the sale, but as the concerned owner of the animal, if there is a health condition, you should know.

"will you lead the charge??"

Yes. as long as I get to ride the saddle of my choice, an 1859 McClellan. With accouterments to match that saddle, such as halter with snap coupler, bridle, breast strap, six coat straps, valise, crupper, sircingle, twin pommel holsters, and saddle bags. Did I leave anything out?

I had a relative that rode a U.S. Cavalry issued 1859 McClellan saddle into several battles. (hint; he was not in the U.S. Cavalry.) :-)
