Hypnagogic

It was just at that moment when sleep slips up on me,
and I begin to drift away upon the Dreamer’s Sea.
I cast off the lines of sad validity, and set the sails most carefully,
catching the wind of wonder full, I set course out of reality’s lee.

In a moment most hypnagogic, I set forth on another life,
and leave behind the daily wear and all its baggage, strife.
Oh what I’ll be and what I’ll see, perhaps a pirate with a knife,
or a statesman bold or a explorer cold, or possibilities so rife.

Its in that moment to be sure that dreams are soft begun,
and where we go on the paths they lead is surely half the fun.
Each trip in the mind is filled with hazards under a half seen sun,
and we go to see it all, hoping the dawn is late, and the dream is done.

Writer’s Prayer

Inspire me to write my best, and pass the creative test,
opening the door to better works and so much more.
I aspire, to go even higher, my works to rise above the rest,
wondering where the stimulus will be found through which door.

Crafting words and images running through my mind,
I wonder what the end looks like, will it even rhyme?
So it goes, and evermore, the search to hopefully find,
a spark that gives us a beginning, somewhere in the line of time.

Reason?

Explain to me the reason,
That he is in this race?
John Kerry is a commie,
And has a horsey face.

There is a simple reason,
It’s not about his face,
In fact he’s not a commie.
He’s a traitor to his race.

I don’t mean just the white folks,
I’m talking ‘bout us all.
John Kerry simply will not rest,
Until we take a fall.

The kind of fall the lizards took,
You know that I recall,
He’ll think the world is better off,
‘Cause we ain’t on the ball.

Perhaps another species,
Could then complete the task.
Almost any one of them,
Would take it if we ask.

A clever equine leader,
Could wear John Kerry’s face.
And have that Kerry horsey smile,
John couldn’t keep in place.

Or maybe porcine senators,
But I don’t think they would,
That’s much too close to what we have,
To do them any good.

John thinks no human being,
Is better than the rest,
Except, of course, for his own kind,
He knows they’ll pass the test.

They are all superior,
In every little way,
That’s why they’re in charge of us.
That’s where they plan to stay.

Of course, they will surrender,
To that much Greener crowd,
And make the world a better place,
Where humans aren’t allowed.

They think they’ll be permitted,
To throw in with that lot.
They won’t be thought as human,
Because they proved they’re not.

You think that I exaggerate?
No one could be that wrong.
What do you think his Army buds,
Thought of his new song.

Or what of Mr. Wallace,
Who wants to know which way,
Mr. Kerry feels about the war,
Now that we’re at today.

There are a few who like him,
Some women folks they say,
They took him to the altar,
They even paid his way.

But if you still support him,
This hip political whiz,
I have to ask you just one thing,
Do you know who he is?

Compare this:

We planted them and
watched them grow
to bud then flower
in our hearts and
knowing that our love
is there for us to see
for us to share

For us to hold like a precious gem
warming us like an inner sun
guiding us in our nights
for us there when we take flight.....

With this:

Caitlin smiled. “Beauty can be found,” she indicated the view laid out before them, “but Happiness is a flower that has to be grown from a seed. You plant it in the warm, sheltered part of your heart, and water it with tears of quiet joy. You protect it from the fierce storms of anger and blasts of cold indifference. And when you look into your heart in your quiet moments, you find it blooming there, giving you sunshine from the inside.” She closed her eyes and smiled.

From an unpublished work.

Rain Jewels

Like silver beads on a wire,
rain drops slide down the crystalline pane,
glittering gems collecting light and dreams,
in the corners of my mind.

Watching them, I never tire,
as I go so willingly down memory lane,
where the sum total is zero, and more then it might seem,
wonders there I know I’ll find.

The sounds of rain is my heart’s lyre,
singing sweet songs that gently fills my brain,
filling me with golden light, cascading interlacing beams,
lighting every corner, until I go blind.

Rain the jewels, rain the fire
rain my love in desire
fan the flames
fan the fire
light the stars
light the pyre
rain the jewels, rain the fire....

Passion growing ever higher
excitement mounting with
each touch, tender longing
it's too much....

Rain the wind to conspire
rain the seas in the breeze
rain the love, rain the jewels
rain the seeds for our needs....

Rain the night rain the day
evermore will we play
on the sweeping, lifting wind
the sound of rain brings me, him...

Blessed Tears

Rain has been called the Tears of Angels,
washing away the pain of the past,
cleaning the soul for the future,
preparing one for life yet to come.

Surely, then you are blessed by the Archangel,
gifted with a benediction in Holy Water to last,
closing old wounds of the heart with His suture,
Healing one in a baptismal rain, His sum.

fill your dreams
caress your face
tenderly lull you to sleep

I would be content in today

But... live this day only
in splendor of knowing
thou lovest me today...

Craft Or Creation?

Poetry, the open soul looking for a place to connect,
seeking another that echoes to the same feelings.
Almost alive, dynamic in spirit, and so unchecked,
vibrant life force shared in words that leaves one reeling.

A sweet song that lifts one to heights inside so dear,
elevating the mind and heart above the less sublime.
A moment so perfect that one knows peace, and no fear,
forged from the heart of one to another in rhyme.

More then craft, or form, coming from within to those without,
shared and taken with no promise, but appreciation.
Art created in finite form, shaped in abstract, a souls shout,
winging across minds in search of just one, waiting on life’s station.

He lives on his wife's money,
His backers bang the drum.

John Kerry wants your money,
He wants your very soul.
Give Saddam back his palaces,
For us a spider hole.

He'd like to ask Osama,
To be his running mate.
Bin Laden said, "no thank you,
John Kerry doesn't rate".

Yes even old Osama,
Knows Kerry isn't fit.
He wouldn't even let John,
Shovel Camel dung.

So listen up, listen good,
When you go out to vote.
Vote for Bush we need him bad,
Put Kerry on a boat.

Very Good!

I admire your tenacity. Rather like raising your rifle overhead, toward the enemy position, and firing a single shot, after an artillery barrage.

I noticed a minor problem with one of the rhymes, though.
Not that there's anything wrung about __it.

Good finish! Um, we are finished, aren't we?
Please say we're finished!

I chose a non-rhyming camel excrement word on purpose. Bent feather doesn't allow and cussing.

Yeah we're done with that one.
