Ok you guys, I have a question. I have always thought the moon followed the sun's trajectory, but now I see the moon going down a good third at least further across the sky than the sun went down. Just last week or so ago it followed the sun when I guess it was a new moon. Now it's way over to the right of the sky.

I'm confused.. Straighten me out, will ya?

Dear Yahoo!:
How many states have approved gay marriages?
Dorothy
Wichita, Kansas

Dear Dorothy:
No U.S. state has legalized marriage for same-sex couples. But it's right around the corner.

In November 2003, the Massachusetts Supreme Court found that gay couples must be given equal marriage rights under the state constitution. Same-sex marriages will be legal in Massachusetts in May 2004.

In February 2004, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom directed the county clerk to issue gender-neutral marriage licenses. Newsom said that California's equal-protection and non-discrimination provisions give gays equal access to marriage. Del Martin and Phyllis Lyon were the first same-sex couple in the U.S. to tie the knot. The lesbian activists have been together for over 50 years. When we sat down to write this, more than 3,000 gay and lesbian couples have married in San Francisco.

Later that same month, a New Mexico county clerk began issuing marriage licenses to gay couples. The clerk and the county attorney noted that state law was unclear and did not specify genders for marriage. The legality of the San Francisco and New Mexico marriages will undoubtedly be debated in the courts.

Even before these developments, states tried to extend some rights associated with marriage to all couples. In 2000, Vermont legalized civil unions giving gays and lesbians all the state benefits and responsibilities of marriage. California, Hawaii, and New Jersey give same-sex couples some spousal rights under their domestic-partner laws. Eight states and the District of Columbia allow bereavement and family-illness leave for domestic partners. Some of these states offer select benefits for domestic partners of government employees.

However, even states that recognize domestic partnerships don't allow the term "marriage" for gay unions. In fact, 38 states have laws banning same-sex marriage.

While the specifics of marriage are left to state laws, the U.S. Congress weighed in on the matter with the 1996 passage of the Defense of Marriage Act. This law says that no U.S. state has to recognize a same-sex marriage performed in another state. It also defines marriage as between a man and a woman for the purposes of the federal government. This effectively bars same-sex couples from enjoying the 1,049 federal benefits and responsibilities of marriage. These benefits include hospital visitation rights, making medical decisions for a spouse, filing joint tax returns, inheritance rights, and Social Security survivor benefits.

Special Offers from NewsMax.com
Mar. 2, 2004

Dear NewsMax Reader:

Please find below a very important message from Lt. Col.
Greg Park, USAF (retired). He has some vital information
to share with you.

Thank you.

NewsMax.com

Dateline Washington D.C.:

President John Kerry and Treasury Secretary Bernie Sanders
announced today that former President Bush's tax breaks
are rescinded. They further announced that anybody who
does not want to work would now get unemployment insurance
for up to 2 years. Furthermore, they announced everyone
living in the United States including terrorists and
illegal aliens would now get free health care courtesy of
the American taxpayer. However, to control the resultant
runaway cost increases, all Doctors have been forced to
take a 50% pay cut and only one hospital is allowed per
State.

Yes, the above is farfetched, scary and even sounds like a
Saturday Night Live Skit. However, if it were up to left
wing extremists like Congressman Bernie Sanders, it could
be all too real in the not too distant future.

President Bush and I need your continued support to insure
that this nightmare scenario DOES NOT HAPPEN:
http://www.newsmax.com/jump/email_ext/ris-030204.htm

John Kerry and Bernie Sanders both claim that only the
rich benefited from the tax cuts. This, despite the fact
that the top one percent of wage earners now pay a higher
percentage of the income tax burden. Well my family and I
are middle class Americans like you and we typically use
our tax refunds to pay off our credit card bills.

I spent 22 years in the Air Force and I would rather see
well-equipped Armed Forces protecting our families than
having someone else getting a free ride off hard working
Americans.

A good friend of mine was once laid off from a great job
on Wall Street but instead of taking unemployment he took
a job as a short order cook and a porter to support his
family. He kept working, never took unemployment
insurance and found a great job.

Bernie Sanders complains that the Economy is in trouble.
Maybe he needs a subscription to the Wall Street Journal
to see how far the Stock Market has risen in the last
year.

Any first year Economics Student knows that changes put in
effect to jump start the economy (tax breaks, interest
rates, etc.) take a year to have a substantial effect.

But Bernie feels the co-Presidency of Mr. and Mrs. Clinton
is responsible for the stock market upswing when they got
into office and now.

They would have you believe that President Ronald Reagan
had nothing to do with the economic boom of his
presidency. They would have you believe that the work
done by President George H.W. Bush had nothing to do with
the economic upswing at the beginning of Clinton's first
term.

President George W. Bush and I need your continued support
to insure that Bernie Sanders never serves another term in
office.
http://www.newsmax.com/jump/email_ext/ris-030204.htm

He cares so little about you and your family that besides
wanting to rescind President George W. Bush's tax cuts, he
was one of only 14 Congressmen who voted against making
the Amber Alert the law of the land.

To have a Congressman like Bernie Sanders is unacceptable
and embarrassing to myself and anybody else who had the
Pleasure to Serve, or have a relative or friend who did,
in our Armed Forces. I love and respect Our Country. I
would never, as Sanders has, vote against making the
burning of our great flag illegal.

President Bush and I cannot fall even one dollar short in
our goal to defeat Bernie Sanders and whoever is the final
Democrat Party nominee.
http://www.newsmax.com/jump/email_ext/ris-030204.htm

No matter what amount you can contribute, every dollar
helps.

$25 buys 25-yard signs. $50 buys three drive-time radio
ads. And $100 allows me to send 250 letters to key swing
voters.

Bernie Sanders has deep pockets of Union Bosses and the
Pro-Abortion Lobby to turn to. But I must rely on
patriotic Americans like you. Thank you for your support!

Sincerely,

Lt Col Greg Parke, USAF (Ret.)

a) Burn through or warp apart the hull plates on one side and that side floods. Interior bulkheads keep the whole vessel from flooding evenly, and over it tips.
b) The bottom.

There has been much speculation about how "rich" one has to be to count as "rich" for a democrat's tax purposes.

I know the answer.
