That was my same thought. Cinco De Mayo gets so much attention, why not Texas Independence?

More in case someone doesn't know. ;)
Fifty-four delegates of the Convention of 1836 began meeting on March 1 at the village of Washington-on-the-Brazos. Each of the settlements of Texas were represented by delegates elected one month earlier. Richard Ellis was elected president of the convention and Herbert S. Kimble secretary.
With very little time to accomplish its mission, delegates of Convention of 1836 wrote and adopted the Texas Declaration of Independence, prepared a Constitution for the newly formed Republic, and organized an an interim government. These actions were accomplished amid almost daily reports of the invasion on Texas soil by Mexico, and the collapse of the Alamo and destruction of its defenders.
The ad interim government that was created by the delegates took office at the close of the convention, and served until the following October, when general elections could be held. Officers of the newly formed Republic included:
David G. Burnet, President
Lorenzo de Zavala, Vice-president
Samuel P. Carson, Secretary of State
Thomas J. Rusk, Secretary of War
Bailey Hardeman, Secretary of Treasury
David Thomas, Attorney General
With their mission accomplished, the delegates and the newly formed government of the Republic of Texas adjourned in haste during the early morning hours of March 17, following news of the approach of Santa Anna and the Mexican army.

It definitely gave him an opportunity to demonstrate his acting skills and will open up some doors. I think one of the best things that could happen would be if he lands a role in a "mainstream" drama playing a character who is emotionally similar enough to Frodo to tap into that association but also distinct enough in terms of setting and plot to help avoid typecasting--sort of like Jack Nicholson could build on
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Next by playing other roles with a similar type of character yet not so similar they limited his career, if that's a good analogy.
I'd also concur in hoping he doesn't try to counter his image by doing something conflicted. For some actors that might be a good way to broaden their acting options, but I don't think that would work for Elijah. He has a good image he should build on. Comedy would also be a good idea--if he cameoed in something that made a joking reference to LotR that would also help him build on Frodo's reputation while also establishing his autonomy.

Have ya'll seen him in Spy Kids 3? I didn't even know he was in it until he popped up. It was cute.

I haven't seen him in Spy Kids Three, but I liked him in his previous roles as a little kid. Particularly in The Good Son. He is more diverse than just Frodo.
I even saw him play a really wicked bad teenager in a TV series appearance. Penny may remember the name of the show. (That appearance affected my dreams, back when I was dreamin' of Frodo)

I agree with both of you. Well, he has a lot of acting years left, so there's plenty of time for him to find the right roles.
I'm a little worried because I took a look at one of the movies he filmed a couple years ago that hasn't come out yet, and it looks awful! I hope he has better judgment in the future! :o Of course, Sean Astin's stint on Las Vegas last night was pretty awful too, from what I saw of it.
Yikes!

Avalon is one of the best movies ever made...though depressing. He was about five in that movie - did a great job, though.
I've never seen The Good Son. Is that good?

Homicide was the show.
It was pretty creepy, that was one COLD kid!
I didn't know he was in Spy Kids Three.
I did like his roles as a kid. His breakout role in "The War" was excellent, especially since he was only about 10 years old.
He just has to find his place as an adult now...not an easy thing since he still looks so young.

The Good Son is a good movie, IMHO, and Elijah plays the good kid against a very bad McCauley Caulkin.
I think you'd enjoy it just to see Frodo so young!

It received horrible reviews though. Think it was a type of genre that you have to be into. Either you really liked it, or you really hated it type of thing.

I wish I could find some stills from Avalon. It was made in 1990 - three years before the Good Son. Looks like he was older than I thought...but then he's always looked younger than he really is! He was really cute.

Wasn't he just adorable? Now he is so grown up with all the well defined sharp angles in his matured face. I love seeing these old pics.

Acording to
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000704/bio , Elijah "Dressed up and rode on a float as the god of wine and mirth to head the Bacchus 2004 parade in New Orleans, Louisiana, for Mardi Gras in February, 2004."
I didn't know that he had done that yet.
On that note, 'tis time to pick up elf-boy from school
Today is his appt (2:00pm) at the pediatric surgeon for his wrist. Later...

Just popped back after having to pop out after my last post. No, I didn't know he was in Spy Kids 3.
To: My back yard
Wasn't he in The Faculty, too?
