A fine good evening and happy new year to you!

I see your writing is already in mid-season form though it's only the first day of the year! :)

A very, very quiet night. In bed by eleven, in fact. My little buddy woke me up by barking in my face at 7:00 this morning so I guess it's for the best that I didn't have too much revelry! :)

Can you stand against a chafing wind
and not bend to the trend
of love and leave 'em
broken and bloody
or does your honor hold
you to your oath
even though your love died
long ago?

Will this be the year?
As a baby, she arrives
I hold her in my arms
So soft and sweet
And innocent
She looks at me, eyes wide
And I see her
As she will be grown up
And I wonder to myself
When will you, my sweet
Know how much I love you?
Will this be the time
That the dry spell ends?
Or will I see you
As I saw the one who left me
Older, sadder
But never, ever forgotten.

Like yours very quiet, just FReeped around on several threads. Went to bed around 3:00am EST.

I have no pets anymore. Mon Cherie (my cat) died at 17yrs, I had to have him laid down. Broke my heart to do that. He was very ill and suffering I could not stand for him to suffer anymore. He was loyal as most animals are.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Before I left home in college, we had cats and our Siamese, named Dennis, was a real friend to me. As I was preparing to move, he died. That was 15 years ago and I haven't had the desire to have another pet until just a few months ago.

Now I'm the owner of a delightful, friendly, pure-bred Cairn Terrier. Except for when he barks in my face early in the morning, it has been great. And I try not to think about what will happen someday. But you never know - maybe he'll outlive me!

Weird, actually.
Not sure what really inspired it.

The Snow Storm

Announced by all the trumpets of the sky
Arrives the snow, and, driving o'er the fields,
Seems nowhere to alight: the whited air
Hides hills and woods, the river and the heaven,
And veils the farm-house at the garden's end.
The steed and traveller stopped, the courier's feet
Delayed, all friends shut out, the housemates sit
Around the radiant fireplace, enclosed
In a tumultuous privacy of storm.
Come, see the north wind's masonry.
Out of an unseen quarry evermore
Furnished with tile, the fierce artificer
Curves his white bastions with projected roof
Round every windward stake, or tree, or door.
Speeding, the myriad-handed, his wild work
So fanciful, so savage, naught cares he
For number or proportion. Mockingly
On coop or kennel he hangs Pariah wreaths;
A swan-like form invests the hidden thorn;
Fills up the farmer's lane from wall to wall,
Maugre the farmer's sighs, and at the gate
A tapering turret overtops the work.
And when his hours are numbered, and the world
Is all his own, retiring, as he were not,
Leaves, when the sun appears, astonished Art
To mimic in slow structures, stone by stone
Built in an age, the mad wind's night-work,
The frolic architecture of the snow.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

Nice poetry and I love that picture of the Wolf. Strong and stoic.

So how goes the snow in your town? More on the way? Will it melt soon?
