This not humor, it is simple vulgarity ... By applauding it you reveal a shallowness of your character or a disregard for the sensibilities of those who share this venue ... I don't like many people and now I respect even fewer. 52 posted on 12/04/2003 7:43:02 PM PST by Old Professer
I take it you're not an Old English Professor.
Maybe an Olde English 800 Professor?

If you are so turned off by vulgarity that it makes you unable to view the movie, then don't watch it. It happens to be the funniest show on TV today, though.
I think you may be missing the joke here - the film itself is mocking excessive use of vulgarity in film and TV in general.
Given your statements, I don't imagine that you could have actually watched the movie (more than a few minutes, anyway). Which is too bad, because if you do have a sense of humor large enough to encompass an idea like "when someone curses all the time, they look comedically stupid doing it", then you won't have a hard time appreciating one of the better movies our entertainment industry has produced recently!
To put it more succinctly, the vulgarity is cover for some extremely effective and conservative propaganda. It is a conservative movie disguised with obscenities - and the obscenities themselves attract the kind of people who really, really need to hear conservative messages.

Yes I saw that one. They really hauled antismoking groups and Rob Reiner in particular over the coals -- including 'alleging' that Reiner tried to kill a kid to ensure that the kid, who was supposed to be dying of cancer from second-hand smoke, really died.

I saw this in the theater, me and my friends were darn near crying it was so funny!

Profanity is the feeble mindeds' way of expressing themselves with force.
Profanity is the Peoples way of making the deprived (those who cant swear properly) feel good about themselves.

^ The script.
Stan: [tarrying] Chef, how do you make a woman like you more than any other guy?
Chef: Oh, that's easy. You just gotta find the clitoris. [serves up some mashed potatoes]
Stan: Huh?
Chef: Ooops!
And of course one of the best lines in the movie....
Cartman: Okay. [reverts to normal and turns away. Saddam turns on the charm and the mothers gasp] Not! [turns to face Saddam and concentrates with all his might. He levitates and the camera circles him] F***! S***! C***! A**! Ti-----! Bo--r! Bi--h! M--f! Pu--y! C--k! Butt---e! Barbra Streisand!

The first time I saw a guy get mugged at school, I just turned my head. Worked like a charm. Suddenly, it wasn't happening. Bad analogy.
If everyone turned the channel then nobody would be watching and this sort of programming would simply disappear. I don't think that is a good strategy for muggings. My turning the channel is simply my application of a boycott against Hollywood using vulgar language for it's shock value. That worked once or twice and it is now just boring and embarrasing.

There are plenty of minors watching TV that aren't mature enough to turn off the TV. But I'll compromise. We'll allow parents to sue producers who expose their kids to filth and porn. I think that will work.

The F word should't be vulgar. It is only vulger if we think of Sex as dirty. I think you are just wrong about that.
I don't think sex is dirty but I do believe that there is language that may be OK in the locker room that I don't choose to listen to in front of my parents and grandchildren. The F word happens to be one of those words. Hollywood thinks it sells. They may be right but not in my case. I don't buy their movies with foul language in them and I don't watch them on television either. This is just a piece of my problem with Hollywood - they have given up story telling in favor of car chases, explosions, simulated sex, violence and foul language. If story telling was still the goal, a little of the latter would go a long way instead of being the focus.

Well AppyPappy I can't solve all the worlds problems but I know how to solve my own. I just turn the channel. It's not a perfect strategy but it works for me.
To: InterceptPoint
I have no problem with that. But you aren't the only person in the world. Some of us aren't willing to just turn our heads.

It is hard to prove whether they are conservative or not, but if you read between the lines of practiacally any episode of South park you will see the liberals' core issues and pariahs not only dragged across the coals but thrown into the fire. Big government, homosexuality, racial quotas, multicultur- alism, the AARP, Barbara Streisand, the military, political correctness, etc... the liberal position is constantly being made fun of.

There was no "alleging" about it. Reiner repeatedly stated they were going to kill him and blame Big Tobbaco Co.

There is no question that Trey and Matt are republicans. They have repeatedly said they are, including at an awards ceremony while accepting their award. The hollywood crowd went silent.
They have many libertarian leanings, which is a GOOD THING.

If you let your kids watch Comedy Central after 10pm, that's *your* problem, not comedy central's. I promise you that no matter how bad you think South Park might be for kids, if they see The Man Show, you'll be in trouble. (although i like the old man show, it was funny but still not for kids.. the new guys are just perverted jerks) And I love South Park. It's a funny adult show and makes fun of liberals all the time. (i don't want to get banned)

Huh? No. Aloysius Harry Sczymanski (better known as Al Simmons), Hall of Fame outfielder for the 1929-30 World Champion Philadelphia A's. .334 lifetime batting average.
Also known as "bucketfoot-al" owing to his unorthodox batting stance.
So now you know....the rest of the story.....
