Cynnicism is understandable.
I don't think it's the best survival habit.

I think there's sometimes a gray area regarding what is news and what is specifically religious discussion.
If, for example, Quix had put the religious comments in post #1 instead of in the text of this basic news item, then I would agree that this would be unadulterated news.
During the 10 commandments/Roy Moore story, there was a news item that dealt with religious themes. It was a cross-over piece. The same with the pledge of allegiance and "under God."
An item really doesn't belong in the religion forum, in most cases, unless it is an overtly theological article.
If the Pope dies tomorrow, that would be a legit news item. If the Pope's theological directorate releases a treatise about Jesus' redemption, then it's theological.....religious forum material.

Sorry to see that the complaints of one dyspeptic malcontent had this important and informative thread shifted over to the Religion ghetto.

In a complex chaotic situation with survival issues aplenty,
YOU are welcome to unnecessarily and very rigidly and narrowly restrict your information inflow if you wish.
That is NOT my preference.

Makes you wonder if some sleeper cell members come here to FR to disrupt and distort so that the public will NOT be informed of changes in the alert status.
And some moderators play right into their hands.

Perhaps I shouldn't get so annoyed.
But when FREEPERS
start acting and sounding like TED TURNER, HANOI JANE, SHRILLERY, ABZUG, BABS, BOXERFACE et al,
TOWARD OTHER FREEPERS
--especially over things reasonable people can differ on--
it gets to be more than a bit much.

I did not construe
25-27th
to mean that come midnight of the 27th,
the terrorists would abandon their plans because the clock ticked to a new day.
They have made abundantly clear that while calendar dates might be baseline planning themes, they would do what they set out to do whenever it became functionally servicable for them to accomplish their murderous deeds.
I don't see what is so hard to understand about this.

"As we though! They are not telling us!"

They don't want to panic people, because there is nothing much the general population can do. Remember, when they raised it to orange some time back and nothing happened, then people complained.
Britain is also on High Alert.
====
Britain on high alert fearing al-Qaeda attack
London, Nov 29 (UNI) Britain's security and intelligence agencies have been on a heightened state of alert for several weeks, fearing an al-Qaeda attack in this country.
Though no information indicating any specific target or an imminent attack had been intercepted, but the activities of those believed to be connected to al-Qaeda were said to have escalated significantly, English daily Guardian reported.
Two weeks ago the intelligence services raised their internal warning level to its second highest state, from that of a ''significant'' to a ''severe general'' alert. The seven tier category of alerts was introduced after the Bali bombing in October last year.
The highest alert is triggered when there is an identified attack on the way to an identified target. Security services describe this as a ''defined'' threat.
The blasts at the British consulate and the HSBC Bank in Turkey's largest city confirmed - as an earlier al-Qaeda statement predicted - that America's allies in Iraq had moved to the top of the militant network's target list. Britain was the first country mentioned in the statement.
The intelligence services and Scotland Yard's anti-terrorist branch agree that an al-Qaeda attack in the UK is a matter of when, not if.
The heightened levels of security have resulted in tighter security around potential targets. Concrete barriers have been placed around Parliament and there have been roadside checks on vehicles by police. The Jewish community
has also been pressing for improved safeguards, the daily reported.

I hate to imagine that would be true.
I don't actually thin that's the case here.
There are people here who are similarly hostile to all hint of God and any mention of God just as the liberal globalists like Ted Turner and Shrillery are who've worked so hard with so much Soviet funding for so many decades to remove God from the public square beginning in with the former Bible College called Harvard.

Oh.. my apologies. Suggesting that somebody has a corncob up thir _ss on a FR thread truly was Christlike. I was certainly mistaken.
Didn't Christ also talk about humility?
Your "detractor" wasn't attacking Christianity. He was questioning the appropriateness of your thread here, rather than in the religious forum. You defended the thread as news rather than a religious discussion, which is a fair thing for you to do and is an appropriate debate. Ultimately, the mods get to decide.
However, you proceeded to make indefensible statements out of a belief that somebody was being hostile to religion. Perhaps your hypersensitivity was based on prior experience in this regard? Prior experience would of course mean that you have had these debates often. This of course suggests that you may disguise religion as "news" often. I can't say whether this is intentional or perhaps a subconscious act since your walk with Christ is certainly a major part of your life. The aggressive defensiveness and nasty language you used caused me to question where you are really coming from.
In defending your remarks, you point out that Christ called folks hostile to religion "vipers." This only demonstrates that you take yourself a little too seriously. Certainly, the two don't equate.
With your overbearing self-confidence and your inability to take any criticism under advisement, as evidenced twice on this one thread, you lost me. The guru / prophet to whom you refer is diminished in my eyes as well.
To: Palladin
Thanks.
I'm curious if that's a move up or down in terms of the infrequented ghettos!
Anyway--hope you had a great sleep.
Paper grading times return tomorrow.

Someone who's been around a few months should think/check facts/reconsider before they mistakenly blast someone who's been around a few years.

I did NOT click BREAKING NEWS. I did click EXTENDED NEWS? Which word do you not understand? NEWS. This isn't news. This is some religious weirdo's misinterpretation of fact! How could you be so irresponsible as to post somebody's opinion as news? There are weirdo helicopters in this thread, for pete's sake! Are you doing this on purpose, or are you really that confused? Are you doing this in the name of politics? This is very strange.
To: Normal4me
looks like part of a giant ray-gun.

I agree that the officials are damned if they do and damned if they don't.
And given the liberal media idiots, the officials are even more hamstrung in terms of what they could ideally do.
Supposedly we live among a well educated citizenry who can make sound judgments based on truthful info inputs.
Given Commie dumbed down schools and a lot of other liberal brainwashing and social engineering on our culture the last 50 years, such an assumption just doesn't fly at all any more.
And any public pronouncement regardless of the probabilities involved--will unalterably be met with a long list of hideous idiocies from the media, the liberals and the plain lazy and stupid.
Among them are probably those who'd duct tape themselves in the bathroom until the air ran out and then wouldn't have presence of mind enough left to unseal the space enough to breathe soon enough to survive.
Crazy world. A very crazy world.

What Quix did was totally irresponsible. The admins at this site realized that just as well as I and some others did.
