Part of what makes this a powerful piece are the graphics used. Their placement between the stanzas is key to the entire piece working.

Excellent!! We must get you to a publisher very soon. :-)

Thank you. I thought about the placement of the fox more than the writing. LOL.

A publisher, yep. Too bad they don't just find me, it would be a lot easier. ;)

As I looked over the placement of the fox graphics, I did see one I would change. The last one. You tell me why.

I am not emotionally involved with the piece as you, so I look at it another way.

We have to do the footwork snippy no matter what it is.
No publisher ever came to me, I had to submit, submit, submit and often the work was rejected. Didn't stop me.

An obsolete term for a foolish, talkative person is
"blatherskite."

Sure is not a problem here today!!!

LOL

I put the last one where the second one is it goes better with:

trade the familiar routine
for something different

Just this non-licensed poets' (But I am published :-)) 2 cents

Well I first had the last picture before the last stanza here;
X
perhaps if i seek the happiness first

Another problem may be just visual, so it doesn't end with the graphic.

btw - unless I only used two graphics and you traded the last one for the second one, then would you have the second one be last...hmmm, I guess that would work.

I'm not done yet. LOL.

Let me explain why I put the fox leaping over the fence last. I guess my babbling is a train of thought and in the end she decides to go after contemplating all that she has surmised.

Make sense?

I put the last one where the second one is it goes better with:

Bingo!!! The fox straddling the fence has not made a decision, the lone fox has.

but she's not stradling the fence, she's jumping the fence...

did anyone notice the symbolism of the white picket fence?

The American Dream, a house with a white picket fence.

Touche!!!!

Fences keep people, animals, in or out.

I didn't see the two hind feet on the points launching the jump!!

This fox is already outside.

She is on the outside looking in and the fence is the only barrier between her and freedom.

Monotone Memory

ah, but it is those moments,
the photographs in monotone memory
stirred by hot summer nights
and your temperment....

neither one of us wanted
the night to end in cool down
something more like
flashing lights throw
the breaker switch off

somebody cut the current
entire show ended in a
fizzle and pouring down rain

two wet cats wandered home
asking themselves what happened
with a silly smile on our face...

Miserable wet cold blooded critters
always with one eye looking one way
the other who knows

Can't sit beside one
lounges are full of them
on the floor, at the bar
lurking, smuggly as though
they really had something

They have something, yes,
not sex appeal, or didn't
you mean those type of lizards?

Two cats wrung out on jazz
in hot road houses settled
for chilling out on the
moonlit beach and
hot dogs in the snak shack

Someone was blowing alto sax
by the water, COOL
ice lemonade and you

Two cats howled the way home
never minding the lurking lizards
with one wandering eye

I had no direction
wandered amilessly
into dark places
avenues wide open
and scared, tired of
always giving more

I dreamed of the orient
the Silk Road on
star spattered desert nites
warm winds in a tent and you

Burning inscense
heady affairs of the heart
writing our poetry of dance
while Sonnets never entered my mind
but you filled my eyes and arms

We did the dream...

In reedy marshes
I amuse my muse
I let her imagine
she is wise to
ways of lovers on
grassy plains
in cool oasis waters
she draws water
from desert wells
and bathes in
oriental spices to
tempt the winds

in the temple her
reflection in oils
awaken drowsy lovers
they reach for her
tanned scented body
lay before her poppies
attar of roses
scarlet sunsets
and romance

she imagined herself
in sedimentary blues
and grassland greens
adorning a tan linear temple
thinking i would
be softened
by her careful carasses

she was
right

Memories of written words
I have none, only tattered bits
of paper kept in a fireproof box

I do not own the words
only the pen must flow
to write of tears dreams
love pies, hollow times
in the barren years...

Diamonds shine
in nite skies
your eyes
often have the same
reflective quality

I have tried to avoid
the look in overcast skies
when your corn flower blue eyes
come into contact with my
glacier blues
I freeze you out
you blink from the
depth of ice you see in me
