Breaking: SEC Asks Court for Authority to Kick LSU Out of Conference
The Western Journal ^ | 09/08/2026 | Johnathan Jones

The Southeastern Conference is seeking the legal authority to expel Louisiana State University as the fight over former professional players continues to play out.

According to a Tuesday morning report from CBS Sports’ Brandon Marcello, the SEC added the expulsion language to an amended federal court filing.

The conference says it needs legal protection to enforce rules that bar professional athletes from returning to college sports.

The SEC’s filing argues that keeping LSU in the conference could violate the league’s rights and values as the school looks to activate two former college players who signed NFL contracts but didn’t make the cut in the league, according to CBS Sports.

LSU coach Lane Kiffin did not add the two players to the active roster during last weekend’s game against Clemson.

The SEC has banned professional athletes from playing on member teams, but Kiffin and LSU continue to explore avenues to bypass the league’s decision.

“Forced association with a member whose conduct is antithetical to the SEC’s mission and core values violates the Conference’s fundamental First Amendment rights,” the filing said.

The conference also accused LSU of repeatedly rejecting its core values publicly.

CBS Sports’ John Talty reported that multiple sources believed the SEC had enough votes to remove LSU — a founding member of the conference — if the school refused to let the issue go.

I blame the judges that will do whatever anyone asks them to do.

LSU on the Lane Train. This will end poorly.

I’m with the SEC on this one.

I would also add the conditions that all players must be full-time students, attend real classes, have zero disciplinary issues, zero outside misdemeanors/felonies, and receive a minimum C average grade point average, receive zero outside money, incl. NIL

But I’m old-fashioned like that.

Do you mean good Ole State U behave like an educational institution with a sports entertainment sideline instead of a sports entertainment institution with a education sideline?

Inconceivable!

Yes. From article:

“A Louisiana judge previously granted a preliminary injunction clearing the way for Wright and Harris to play.”

I suppose these fool judges would jump in and rule on the laws of quantum physics if someone asked them to.

Were any former NFL players already playing for LSU when they curb stomped Clemson?

However the former player rule ends, I'll give Kiffin credit for keeping himself and LSU in the news. He's always been best at generating free PR. I'm sure SEC commissioner Greg Sanky is privately grateful for that attention after the Big Ten has been getting all the love (for good reason).

I though a professional was someone that gets or has been paid to perform.
It's shocking what college football players can get:

And, I might add, the new LSU coach shows himself to be a complete IDIOT in stepping over the line into such a controversy, with all the talent he has to choose from.

Not to my knowledge, but he is holding roster spots for them. The SEC’s beef with LSU is basically Lane is out of control and not abiding by the conference regulations. Basically, lack of institutional control over the coaching staff.

LSU will NOT be leaving the SEC. Just a bunch of drama.

No, he didn't use them on the weak, out of conference opponent.

Some of the college players are probably making more than some of the NFL players.

Minimum in NFL is $885,000; pay at some of the top NCAA schools runs into the multi millions.

There’s a piece to the class attendance and GPA maybe your not aware of.

Around 2015 we hired a new admin assistant fresh out of Clemson. After getting to know her she mentioned she had bern a tutor for the football players. Half kidding but figuring I knew the answer, I jokingly asked her how much of their work did she have to do for them.

Stone faced serious she looked at me and said “make no mistake, the tutors do ALL the work for football players.

So even if they show up their work is done for them.

What about tests you say?.....let’s just say there’s enough money on the line that by some miracle players never miss eligibility because of school work.

That may be the dumbest thing I’ve read all year, and if the person who wrote this is from LSU, it just proves Randy Newman right:

“College men from LSU, went in dumb, come out dumb, too.”

Exactly rt. LSU is not going to be kicked out by either the SEC or the courts. BTW, if LSU were kicked out TV would have the rights to rescind their contracts with the SEC; that wouldn’t work to the SEC’s benefit and they know it.

Where is the President of LSU or even the Governor of Louisian to stop this insanity. Kiffen does not run the university or the state but he seems to have full control and will be responsible for the disaster coming if nothing changes.
