Basically, don’t let the government grab power you wouldn’t trust your political enemies to wield.

This is a good principle to keep in mind. When "your" party is in control, it's common for people to start talking about ending the filibuster, take shortcuts in the legislative process, let bureaucracies act with powers not granted to them and so forth. But the same people would scream bloody murder if the other party does the same when they are in power.

It's funny on this website when I get called nasty names for that. When I say things like “a major remodeling of the White House should be authorized by Congress” or “emergency tariffs against every country in the world simultaneously isn't a power given to the president” I get called a TDS suffering commiecrat. The same people were calling for impeachment when Biden tried to cancel every student loan because that spending wasn't authorized by Congress and other extreme stretches with executive orders.
