RCMP Seize 439 Guns as Former MP Inky Mark Faces Canada’s Firearms Dragnet

Former Member of Parliament, 78-year-old Inky Mark, has been a long-time and vocal opponent of the increasingly restrictive Canadian firearms laws. Mark’s father and grandfather had immigrated to Canada from China in 1923. Mark and his mother came to Canada when he was five years old, fleeing Chinese communist oppression in 1953. Mark could not immigrate earlier due to the Chinese Immigration Act of 1923.

Inky Mark served as a member of Parliament for 13 years, 3 months, and 15 days. He was fiercely independent with a strong conservative bent. He criticized highly restrictive Canadian firearms laws and Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

On March 21, 2026, at a gun show in Newfolden in the northwestern corner of Minnesota, about 50 miles south of the Canadian border, Wilfred Kachurowski, 73, was looking at the items in the show. Wilfred is a Canadian citizen who has a residence in Dauphin, Manitoba. Inky Mark also has a residence in Dauphin.

Merely looking at firearms or purchasing a firearm may not have been Kachurowski’s intention. He is reported by inews.tv as taking a .38 caliber firearm from one of the gun show tables and placing it in a bag attached to his walker. The owner of the firearm followed him and tackled him to the floor. The police were called. Later reporting by CBC.com stated the revolver was a Taurus Judge chambered for .45 Colt/.410 shotgun rounds. Kachurowski was arrested and taken to jail.  He was later released on bail. He returned to Canada on March 28.

Inky Mark was a member of parliament for 13 years. He was a strong opponent of Canada's extremely restrictive gun laws. An attempted gun theft at a gun show in Minnesota led to a search warrant in Canada. The search in Canada turned up a couple of guns linked to Inky Mark. The RCMP got a search warrant for Inky Mark, and seized his 429 gun collection and $300,000 in Canadian cash...

Seems to me when you seize folks legally owned guns you are one step away from a dictatorship.

About 20 years ago I was driving north on I-29 heading for Canada. When I got to the border station they sent me to "secondary" for further investigation. For the record it must have been a slow day at that station because the only two US cars there were mine and someone from Alaska.

They took me into a garage type of thing and began pulling my car apart and asking me a million questions about firearms. They also demanded the password to my laptop.

At this point in my life I had traveled the world (First World *and* Third World) and had never been treated like that by any foreign government's official.

After about 90 minutes they allowed me to enter and I've entered Canada about a dozen times since...with no trouble.

The only reason I can think of for this is that some American with my same name (mine is a very common name) must have been on some firearms watch list.

It’s Legal gun owners they’re going after not their friends the gangs that are shooting up Canada

I had a similar experience in July of 2009, at the border between Hyder, Alaska and Stewart, Canada.

I had been taking a lot of pictures in Hyder, as I was considering purchasing real estate there. I think someone suggested to the Canadian authorities that I was a US military spy.

Eventually, they returned everything... it only took a couple of hours.

I think the later report that it was a Taurus Judge revolver was the more accurate one.

“The charges mostly appear to be malum prohibitum, (bad by definition of law).”

Thanks for naming it for me. I wouldn’t make it on a jury for such a case. There’s no crime if there’s no victim but a legislator’s hurt feelings for me.

While I was serving as a Marine officer temporarily assigned to the UN in 1989, my commanding officer at the time was a Lieutenant Colonel Alan Clark of the Canadian Army. He was a quiet, sober, steady sort of guy and I liked working for him.

While I was working for a couple of months as a Treaty Officer, he told me that "US is planning to invade Canada".

I was incredulous and told him, in effect "poppycock".

He said, "yes the US will invade Canada and that plans in the Pentagon exist for this"

I told him that "it's likely some sort of plans exist somewhere but that's normal part of planning for any and all contingencies, even really unlikely ones".

Then I told him that, "We already have plenty snow and ice and too damn many liberals already - we don't need more".

Oddly, he didn't speak to me much after that.
