(3) the King-rejecting Puritansclick here, separated from the immediate authority of both the distant Anglican state church and the aristocracy involved.

You’re right.
All except one (Paine) identified as Christian in some form. Most were Protestant — only three RC. If people who come here choose not to practice Christianity, they at least need to respect it 100%.
I don’t understand why the FFs didn’t address the Muslim issue when preparing the original documents. It’s not as if they weren’t aware of the problem considering that The Crusades had occurred in the past.
Even though freedom to practice any religion is in the 1A, they should have stipulated that only Christians could hold political office.
When Adams said “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other”, the writers should have incorporated that idea in to the Constitution.
